Without going into typical Bose hate fodder, inform him they have quality issues, i.e., not very durable.
Get some real heavy duty DJ cans. Can't recommend any from experience, but there are plenty around for the same price or less.

I've always avoided giving my friends advice. Especially when it's don't buy Bose. It sounds rather douchey on my part.
