Beyerdynamics T1 Amplification Thread

The brightness could be due to the cabling or the source. I was using Mac Mini 2010 and I need to turn down the treble a lot for many tracks in my library. I did change the USB cable to a better one (don't need to pay for those insanely priced $1K type of cable) and the treble peakiness is reduced somewhat. Then I switched to my 2008 MacBook and the sound improved further, more balanced & less peaky. Also, if you are using iTunes, you may want to switch off the EQ. Some tracks actually sound much better without EQ.
If you are not listening at high volume, the Beyer sounds great, dark background & transparent mids. But if you are listening at high volume, like me, yes, T1 can sound unbearably bright. Especially so, if paired with bright system like Bifrost/Asgard 2, which I have come to conclude is designed & tuned for Orthos like Audeezs (those are very hard to drive especially the highs). I am looking for a DAC/Amp replacement soon.

It did sound a little bright to me in stock mode. I changed the cable for a OCC copper cable and I also mainly use it with my Woo but even with m,y V200 I personally don't think sound bright anymore and really like them.
Yes, different tubes have different sound characteristics that is why tube rolling is so much fun.

Interesting... Copper cables usually do sound darker, a bit warmer, but they don't have the same amount of details like silver ones. I read somewhere that T1s stock cable is quite a good one, although I don't know what is it's made of. Anyone has some details about that?

What type of cable did you use for replacement? Any suggestions?

Everybody hear different so what is bright to me might not be for you. You are right the silver cables provide normally more detail and "air" but in my case they cause me fatigue after 20 minutes of so listening. I prefer the warmer sound of copper and IMO with the OCC copper you don't sacrifice much detail either. Ther are several good OCC copper cables like Aphroditecu29 Zeus, Moon Audio Black Dragon and Blue Dragon, Double Helix Complement and Jenalabs among others. I personally have had very good results withe Zeus. It is based on the internal wires of the WireWorld Eclipse 6 (now 7) interconnects. It is light weight, performs excellent in my opinion and not very expensive as others.

Is it possible to damage the T1s with a Blue Hawaii headphone amp. I am asking beacause after using them witha benchmark Dac1 I decided to sell them on eBay and now the buyer wants a refund because he said that after connecting them to his blue Hawaii he heard a screeching that hurt his ears. He claims they were damaged. Now that sounds suspicious to me. It sounds to me he blew up the drivers. No I am stuck with damaged headphones. Sorry I needed to get it out of my chest. Any idea of what happened or advice. Once I get them I am planning to send them for repairs to see what happened. And to be honest looks like with eBay being buyer friendly I don't have a lot of options. Thanks

Blue Hawaii? Is he talking about the electrostatic headphones amp produced by Justin?
If that is the one then how he can even connect the T1? The BH has only Electrostatic output connectors.

What's your opinion on Musical  Fidelity M1 with T1?
What mod did you do on it?

I listened to T1 hooked up to a Naim DAC+ Beyer A1, and the soundstaging is
so immense I bought the T1 in a heartbeat. But I couldn't afford a $4000 Naim DAC
so I am still searching for an affordable solution. If any consolation, the T1 does
make my tiny Audio Technica amp sounds better than before :)

I'm using the T1 with A1 amp and Firestone Audio Fubar2-MKII USB DAC, is this dac a bottleneck in my system?

The best thing to do is to try a higher class DA converter and compare it to yours. My suggestions are Cambridge Audio Dacmagic, or the already mentioned M1 dac. If you have a bigger budget, go for Stello or Naim. They are a bit expensive, but there is a huge improvement compared to entry level DA converters, especially with one of the last two suggested.

P.s do you find A1&T1 combo bright at a times?

So Many Amps! I was looking at the a1, wa2, and the fostex hp-a8. Any thoughts? I'm looking at 2k to spend at the most. is there something better than those three for that price? I honestly don't even know where to begin.

I just got the Auralic Taurus so I will report what I'm sure you already know since you own the same amp. The Taurus has crazy good synergy with the T1's. I have never heard them sound this good. They seem to love the power of the Taurus. I also have the HD800 and the Taurus is good with them but the T1's really get up and sing with the Taurus.

I honestly don't know if it's bright or not, I have nothing to compare it with and T1/A1 is the only system i have heard. I just bought a Schiit audio bifrost, I really hope there is some difference because I don't really like how my favorite band, In Flames, sounds with my current system.

Does anybody here have any experience with the Centrance HiFi-M8 and T1 combination and what's your opinion (pros & cons). How about the Audio GD NFB11.32 and T1 combination? I'm contemplating on getting the T1. Thanks in advance

Great to hear that - Actually - I haven't tried that combo yet - but I sure will!

I've only been listening to the T1's on the Taurus single end with the standard cable. I'm tempted to get an XLR connector and try a little DIY to the cable so I can listen to it in balanced mode. I hate to cut the cable but I've read that the T1 cable is balanced so it is easy to solder on a 4 pin XLR.

My T1s sound good through my M^3 with 8610s or 637/627s, my Woo3 (6922s and Cetron power tube) which virtually sounds the same as the M^3, and possibly best from my GS-1... but it should be noted that it's really hard, if at all possible, to tell the difference between the GS-1 and an AC powered O2 unless you exceed the power levels of the O2.  DAC is a North Star 192 MKII.

Curiously, from the GS-1, with 300 ohm 650s and 600 ohm T1s plugged in at the same time, the T1 plays louder than the 650s at any give volume setting.

Edit:  Just wanted to say that I see a few guys are still talking about hearing differences with cables and wanted to mention that I've never heard any of these differences.

The same here. I can hear a slight difference between cables but not enough to matter so I buy middle of the road cables and call it a day. Tried some very "high end " cables and gave up on the concept. Saved a lot of money. I should point out that I never require long runs so maybe that is the difference.
