For what it's worth, after I had my T90 recabled by @PETEREK, harshness became virtually nonexistent.  It was much easier to listen.  I don't know if that's because of the higher quality cable he used, or the fact that it was balanced, or both.  I imagine the better quality cable helped.

Same experience here. Although, I know for sure that Forza Audio did some mods other than just re-cabling, as Matt was asking me about some particulars. I told him to make it neutral. I do have to ask what exactly he did, but he did an outstanding job.
PETERTEK, that was the one I meant in my post. I've seen some spectacular pictures of modded T90s. Seems to be a very capable business!

Hi everybody,

I just got the T90 black/chrome today (only 280 on beach camera) and have been listening/comparing with my Q701 nonstop. I'm hearing the sibilance in the treble and it's painful. I love everything else about the sound though, details, very present bass, decent (although echo-y) soundstage.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a specific amp to just cut the treble sibilance?
(Currently running off SABRE 9018 DAC and SABRE 9602 Headphone amp)

Please and thank you. Desperately want to love these headphones for the ability resolve so much detail while also having full bodied bass. (Listen primarily to classical)

So, operafan, here's perhaps a solution for you: ColtMrFire suggests re-cabling by PETREK. I somehow do not find the proper link, but ColtMrFire will sure provide you with the coordinates!

I've been able to pair my T90s with an Audio-gd NFB29 (ES9018) amp/dac and the sinergy had a lot to do with the mastered music I was playing at the moment. Sometimes wonderful but sometimes too harsh.

Now having upgraded to a NOS11 (pcm1704uk), the more musical character of this high end dac/amp, drives the T90s much more smoothly. The trebles remain detailed but more on the smoother side of the spectrum :) .

Being ill though from upgradeitis, I' m looking for a headphone-jump from my T90s to the Ether Flows...

I've found that the T90's work well with tubes and they scale well also. They work well with my Schiit Valhalla and my Icon HP8. Others have liked them with the Bottlehead Crack or the Woo WA6. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice and input guys! But I can't help but be skeptical changing cables and wires could change a sound signature (the harsh treble) embedded so deeply into the T90. Just my thought, if anybody could elaborate on this that'd be interesting. I feel like you can't go much higher than 100% OFC

Does anybody know of any good hardware equalizers? As opposed to just the built in software equalizer in Poweramp or foobar

As for amps I guess I'll try to get my hands on a bottlehead crack. Really hoping it'll tame the treble peaks

Are you considering the LCD-3? Or are you set on ether flows

It's always good to be skeptical, but not so close minded as to miss potential benefits.  As with anything, don't knock it before you try it.

My experience with cables is that the ones I've tried have all been different to one degree or another.  And expensive doesn't always mean "better".

My recabled T90 was unquestionably better.  I did not expect the highs to be tamed, so that was kind of a shock.  Personally I would rather have the highs tamed through a cable, and keep my chain as transparent as possible (which is the point of having such a resolving HP in the first place), which means solid state amp.  I do not like the distortion of tubes, as "pleasing" as it sounds to some.  I don't care for it, I want as much transparency as possible.

But everyone's tastes is different.  I have not heard the bottlehead crack, but I did own Valhalla 2 and it was exceedingly excellent with the T90, except for the lack of slam (solid state is always going to be better in that department).  I have heard the Crack is more "tube like" than Valhalla 2 (which is closer to solid state sounding than tube sounding).

First of all I have to sell my T90s that appear in the sell/trade thread... Then I want to give the Ethers Flow a try :)

Thx anyway! ;)

You can spend tons of money on cables and the like....the T90's with the cable it comes with and a good simple amp and dac are really very good....been there done that...$$$$$$$$$ when its all said and done lots of wasted dollars, but egos and the like nicely inflated IMO.

I have six amps, 4 dacs and each one of them are superb, doing blind unbiased testing with all of them produces the results that no one can predictably determine whats in the chain!! Had many more, why?? I wanted to see for myself....boy was i shocked!

That said, huge thick expensive cables and heavy thick aluminum enclosures are nice to look at!! lol...as well as megabuck NOS tubes!

even bottlehead has indicated the actual circuit means more than mucking with cables etc....but us techie types like to play! Thats why I am a DIY'er......

All the best

The only time i'd probably spend good money on cables is on car audio b/c there actually is an insane amount of power sometimes going through those wires and good wires mean less fire hazard etc. I've actually had a fire start b/c of these stupid neon lights that would go off with the bass. You know what i mean? BOOM BOOM flash flash. Anyway one day the lights (which were blue and red) had this orangey color, and i stopped the car to look under my seat and there was a flame. So i jumped out of car and ripped the neon lights and wires with my vare hands. The fire was small mind you but scary. Anyway that wasn't with the audio cables, but i've seen cheap car audio cables disintegrate rather quickly posing a fire hazard. I believe in the words BEASTLY when an amp says like 2000 watts RMS of Pure American power. You need good cables for that, but i have my doubts about those $1000 headphone cables.
We're talking miliwatts. I hope i dont get burned for this.

I've seen people say they get them for the looks as well which is fine, and i do think cables do make a difference, as really crappy ones produced and pick up system noise/ static sounds.
Some of the cable prices really shocked me. Some costing more than the headphone.

Anyway, how people spend their money is their business. I know cables make a difference, but some of it is just shocking :P

With many of the recable changes mentioned here I think that some of it might be more related to running the t90 off a balanced output in comparison to the single ended output of the amp.
