Now if only they came with a removable cable I'd be totally happy with them. Sometimes that cable is just too long to deal with.

You can always cut it by your own and solder the plug again.

Yeh i found the t90 to be a decent grado alternative, the top end is very grado like with great detail and clarity but unlike grados they have more weight and emphasis down low. Comfort is also much better, i can almost forget i have them on which i couldnt say about most grados. They are very amp dependant i find, the wrong amp can be fatal.

Probably. I tweaked my Caiman II headphone section for better damping and feedback and my Grado 325is's sound marvelous on it. I wish that they would be more comfortable, since their original ear cushions are after some time not so easy to have them on my ears. This cushions design is also very position dependant and may change the base response when not properly and closely put on you ears. If you change them to the L-cushion it also change the sound signature significantly - I will not recommend it.

Taking all of above into consideration, I thought that T90 could be a nice alternative, or otherwise you could recommend something else?

I think the t90 is a nice step up from the sr325 in both sound and comfort assuming you pair it with the right kind of amp. The only other solution is to step up to grados gs1000 which will give you the grado sound along with great comfort, they are a bit more expensive tho. I was actually planning on moving up from the ps500e to the ps1000e when I stumbled across the t90 and I haven't even thought about the ps1k since then as I've been very satisfied with the t90.

FYI -- T90s on Massdrop; current price is $500 American but it needs one more commit to purchase to drop the price all the way to $450 American.

I'll say it once: iwannitiwannitiwannit

I am one of those who committed buying the T90 on massdrop. Now my problem is a decent amp/dac to drive this HP. Do you think Fioo E18 would be good enough? I am more on using this HP to my portable devices like Ipod, Samsung phone and to my laptop.

Okay so I have auditioned the T90's twice now, and I have ordered my own pair which is still being shipped out. For the price, the T90's offer EXCELLENT value - they offer performance that is right up there with the flagship headphones and are pretty fun and engaging to listen to (they don't feel so clinical/analytical/sterile).

But there's an issue... you need to match the T90 with a clean, non-bright/non-harsh DAC and amp. Match it poorly and you're probably going to have some issues with the treble.

I have no idea how the Fiio E18 would pair with them. The T90's don't need a powerful amp, so as long as the E18 is neutral/warm, you should be fine.

EDIT: Using a pair of high-end, open, over-ear headphones for portable use sounds pretty strange to me, though... These are meant to be used on decent quality desktop systems.

Thanks a lot for this post. That stamped me with the idea to buy a pair for me as well to be paired with Caiman II DAC which I think sound quite warm and it's not harsh.

I just completed a Bottlehead Crack OTL amp this am.

Got it on Friday, took 6-7 hrs to put together....all resistance and voltages were spot on.

Really an easy DIY kit.

After hearing soooo many great recommendations for this amp and the T90s I had to try it for myself.

I have gone down the tube amp route many times and always come back to my O2 and my dektope version of the O2 called the "ODA".

They both are superb.

So I was really struck by how good this amp plays with the DT90s...its really magic to an objective guy like me!!

The detail, the really open and deep soundstage is absolutely amazing ...great recordings so so live and have a depth and make me smile alot!

Listening to Blue Rodeo as I type...such wonderful guitar rifts and the reverberations in the studio and from all around make it a joy to listen to.

I have a speedball upgrade on its way but I am really thinking of not messing up the great sound I have now!!

Its that good!

Hey, bad luck there, sorry to hear :(

I can't understand from the picture and can not find any better picture to see how this plate connects to driver itself, basically there should be contacts on driver, you just need to find the way to keep plate in place, of course it should be connected to contacts on the driver itself.

Hard to tell from this photo how exactly connection is made.. maybe some simple soldering or silicone could do the job.

Other way is to order spare driver and solder wires from this plate to new driver.. But it costs a lot.

I present to thee, the T90B:

Grabbed some Brainwavs pads, and did one small mod: i added a small circle of double-ply tissue beneath the foam driver covers.

The sound is absolutely changed for the better - actually it sounds a bit like the Oppo PM1 now, to my ears - linear, slightly warm, with tight, deep, well-controlled bass. It definitely tames the highs, and some might lament the 5k dip without the extra 6-10k energy, but to my ears it sounds much more natural now. One thing I really love about the sound with this mod/pads is that the truly deep subbass really comes out like it couldn't before with the peaky upper registers - with less treble, I can increase my preferred listening volume, which really helps show off the depth and texture of the low end, as well as the refinement and presence of the mids.

Even with just the Brainwavz pads, the sound definitely takes a turn for the better. I recommend these pads 10/10 to anyone who wishes the T90 was a smidge less bright. The tissue mod helps too, for sure, although I have to disclaim - don't blame me if you take your headphones apart and break them ^_^

Just did the tissue mod (original pads for now). The sibilance I had problem with is now gone. Overall, the sound is a little bit muffled, I might experiment with one layer tissue instead of two, but it is really just a little bit muffled, and the "s" is now "s" and not "SSSSSS". Worth it I think, and - the cheapest mod ever :D

I need to set the amp louder now to get the same loudness (11 instead of 10 o'clock), hence, more bass. Bass quantity was ok before mod, but it is also nice now.

Regarding the muffledness - it is not a blanket effect or anything like that, maybe rather a tissue effect :) I will listen a little bit more to them with the mod and see if they lose any accuracy. The brain got used to the sharpness, thats for sure :)

So, what will be effect of Brainwavz pads now? More bass? Even less treble?

One thing I am thinking now is, generally, what is an advantage of hardware mods like this, vs equalizing?
