Thanks I will do this, I need a cheap DAC to go with it then? As this is amp only correct? I can't afford two high parts, so grab the Darktune, and can you recommend like a $50 DAC? Or can I somehow jimmyrig my Schiit Fulla DAC to the Darktune?

Yea you'd need a DAC, the DV is just an amp. I don't know much about the Fulla and its inputs, their customer support is usually stellar so I'm sure if you contact them asking if you can connect the fulla to a dedicated amp they will be able to help you.

Schiit's Modi 2 is regarded as one of the best (probably the best?) DAC under $100. I understand this exceeds your initial budget by quite a fair bit but the T90s are nice headphones, Beyerdynamic's own amp, the A20, that is (as far as I'm aware) basically designed to be paired with the T90s costs like $500 for just an amplifier. If there is any way you can stretch your budget upward of like $300~ rather than 200 for the DV + Modi 2 then I'm certain you'd not regret it, the headphones deserve it and and will respond accordingly. These components last a very long time too so unless you really feel the urge to upgrade to something better they are a pretty solid future-proof investment for the most part.

If you're going own a headphone that retails for $500+ theres no point in skimping on source/amp. You are just shortchanging headphones that demand high quality sources.

Or maybe you're planning on upgrading in the future. I dont mean to make assumptions.

You can also upgrade your sound for no cost. After I started playing music with Bughead Emperor and running it and the music files from RamDisk instead of a hard drive (Softperfect RamDisk) the music took a quantum leap forward.

Actually I think I figured it out, I just popped on an Audioquest Jitterbug, and the harshness has toned down quite a notch. I also grabbed a SMSL M6 dac/amp and have it set to 32 bit 192kHZ, I don't know why but it sounds really nice now ^^

I'll look into the Bughead Emporer thing as well, thanks... I am just using Groove to play my files now, Groove works quite well honestly, not having an EQ kinda sucks, dunno why but everytime I try using Foobar it won't work half the time, even after I instaleld WASAPI and the Encoding pack ; ;

I am quite in love with my T90s now though thanks to the Jitterbug, without it the harshness comes back... so I guess its just a nice filter... I dunno.

I also have the jitterbug but i also have an Uptone Regen and that combo is the most significant upgrade Ive yet experienced. The regen is a miracle product... It makes the already super detailed T90 way more detailed and scary realistic. I can literally hear the saliva in a singer's mouth and chair creaks in an orchestra. I highly recommend the regen.

Thanks, would I still use the Jitterbug on that? I can get a $50 refund on my Jitterbug still, that would put that Regen within my price range... $175 down to 125ish.  I could swing 125ish... or do both together work better?

Bitfrost Papermod require you owning a Bitfrost already I assume? :D

The regen by itself was a revalation. But combined with the jitterbug it was almost twice as good. I would not use a regen without a jitterbug àt this point, so take that as you will. I got a used regen for $125 here on head fi. The amber version (upgrade from the original green regen).

I have a Bifrost 4490. Adding bits of ers paper inside on the microchips gave it more realism and less harshness. You can see a picture of what I did in the 4490 thread. Posted maybe a month ago or more.

Hi guys, I need to bring down the harsh treble on my t90s, currently I use schiit fulla but I am going to sell it soon because I think I need a tube amp since I prefer warm and smooth sound while still maintaining the great detail/imaging/soundstage.

My budget is $200, I was thinking about the Nobsound 6J9 vacuum tube off amazon for 50 bucks.  or the Aune T1 SE MK3 for $199 on Massdrop, I love these T90s but I just am new to this world and need some guidance in the dac/amp department, these are the only cans I plan to own besides my Pioneer SE-A1000 cans for the next 2-3 years... so I really want to pair the right dac/amp to the T90.

i pair it with chord mojo and it is sweet..no more harsh treble...

and another option i am using is E12 DIY amp and roll OPA627 into it

Then tubes are not the way to go for you.  I recommend an audio-gd amp, but it will cost significantly more.  You can never go wrong with them, so long as you avoid the lowest-end units.  There's currently the C-2, or you can wait to get someone's used NFB-5 or Compass2.  Steer clear of the NFB-11, 12, and 15, though, they are terrible.

Has anyone used the T90 with the Schiit Vali 2?  I'm possibly looking to get into tube amps.  What I don't want is for the T90's amazing detail and resolution to get lost on the syrup of tubes.

I am running the T90 - Vali 2 combo. It is definitely a good match, and because the amp is a hybrid design (tube as voltage gain / discreet class ab amplified output stage) tubes will not render the sound completely "syrupy", but instead lend some smoothness to the T90's behaviour. I especially found the relatively inexpensive Tesla E88CC NOS tubes to tame the treble peak very well, while rendering a tight, controlled and punchy bass and presenting a solid, wide and in no way veiled midrange . Also, Schiits build quality is stellar for the price you pay, highly recommended.

You will lost many details for sure with vali 2! Pick walhalla 2 instead and you even gain details, soundstage, little bit of warmth and spacious sound.
