Can other owners confirm whether the cable is detachable / replaceable or must be re-wired? Doesn't say in the manual and I don't want to pull the connector to test it out...

that's actually an interesting question. I had a look at the earcup base on mine, and it does look like it might be a socket, but like you I'm reluctant to test that hypothesis :) . Seems to soft for a connector though.

>little more bass will make it perfect for me.

heh, I'm using a temp system now (md11) while moving places. and indeed. With my usual setup it would probably be too bright. Very good headphones though - balanced (slightly bright ). Probably the best closed ones I've tried and close to some of the best open ones too.

This headphone gives lots of details, however I don't have another similar grade headphone to compare.

Only grumble is the bass is weak; although I know it keeps close to recorded source.

Those who are used to boosted bass type headphone may not like T5P.  I am trying hard to get use to neutral amp.
I intentionally tried with PC soundcard to get the maximum bass.  T5P can withstand maximum bass setting without sound distortion, it can handle bass pretty good.  However, most portable player only offer mild bass boost, and this HP is designed to play without EQ setting.

I don't think the cable is replaceable, dare not pull too hard anyway.
It is too big to me as portable.  Could be portable at home, but not outstation.

I was wondering if someone could compare the DT770/600 to the T5p? With the Denon series apparently the D7000 is not a huge improvement over a recabled D2000 so I was wondering if there is a similarity between the DT770/600 and T5p.

Also I am wondering how T5P earpads compare to Jmoney or the genuine leather pads offered by Beyerdynamic, mainly in terms of comfort
.

if you arent getting enough bass on these, then you need a better amp. Mine sound grainy and have a steep bass roll off at about 400hz from portable cowon d2. They are however exceptional with no grain and very deep bass in nice quantity from my md11 or d100.
I guess that means they arent really portable, unless you carry an amp

Do you happen to use the high impedance output on these amps?

Because I have a feeling that it has not much to do with power per se. What plays a bigger role is the impedances that are at play, i.e. add a little adapter with two resistors (120 ohm for example) to the d2 to raise the output impedance and you'll get pretty much the same frequency response. :)

Here a rough graph I made a couple of weeks ago on the german hifi-forum.

you're probably right. I remember people in the DT48 thread talking about the same issue with the bass... Cowon d2, can still drive my T5p to ear-splintering levels, it just sounds like poop.

I currently have T5p on the 'high impedance' HP jack on the D100. (although I thought it doesn't have a 100 ohm resistor in it, but the low impedance one did)

I also have a 200ohm impedance adapter in my drawer, but to connect it to the D2, I'll have a 20cm plug :D (3.5jack->200ohm 6.5 adapter-> 3.5 adapter)... I suppose one can just get a 120 ohm 3.5 to 3.5 mm small extension cable though.

The D2 also has a pretty steep bass roll off of its own with low Z 'phones.  Even with my SE530s all the sub bass is MIA unless I use my Bithead.

Yeah, well, but keep the graph I posted in mind. T5p's above >50 ohms on the low end so you'll be down less than approx. 1 dB at 35 Hz (based on measurements by dfkt). Shouldn't be a big deal in this case I guess.

Where is that graph anyway?  I saw it once a while ago and couldn't find it again when I wanted to check specifics.

I have tried various sources, portable player, no bass at all.  ipod, weak bass without EQ.  Onkyo AVR, weak bass with Pure Audio.  PC sound card, weak bass without EQ.  Out of all, only PC soundcard has EQ that is able to get the bass out, the rest with EQ boost also can't get good bass reproduction.

The best listening mode should be natural amp without EQ boost, but I just feel the bass is too weak at natural amp.  I am getting the Beyer base station, should be coming next week.  However I doubt the base station will help anything on bass, because it is just a DAC.
