Any recommendations for an SS amp?

Not really.  I've never even heard the T5Ps and I'm not exactly a connoisseur of amplification.  Like I said, I'm just going by the specs.

i didn't really believe the one i've heard.  not saying they're bad. just not what i expected.  once i plugged them to the amp.  wow.  the bass is back. treble is there.  everything is back.  the difference was, they're a bit darker than t1.  maybe a dash more bass?  don't know how to describe it but i like the t1 bass a bit more though.  the mids is similar.  treble not extent as t1.  do the t1 have more detail?  or show more detail?  i think so.

The amp from beyer itself is not giving T5P more bass : (
Haven't tried other amps.

I have to agree with these two statements completely. T5ps are horribly dificult to drive and require lots of power. I have been using them with my Meier Audio Stepdance and the results are pretty good, but now you got me thinking that maybe I should buy a home amp.

The question here, however, would be - what is a good amp for these? What kind of current is required to drive them properly in your opinion?

I am not following your statement about tube amps - do they provide the current or the voltage? Will a tube amp be a good choice for T5ps or not?

One of the few full-size high-end phones that can be considered portable. I have the same problem with IEMs as you.

I stumbled upon this:

Pro-Ject Head Box SE II
http://www.iheadphones.co.uk/pro-ject-head-box-se-ii-black.html

and my favourite so far:
Burson HA-160

And also bought a Fischer Audio HA-02

I will be checking the full-size amp forum too, to check what my options are.

since you're having good experience with the stepdance, why not meier home amps?  meier always pair great with beyer.  i have a head 5, which is close to swing and it ain't bad at all.  i guess concerto would be a great pair.

as for head box ii, i have head box mkii and it's basically a very beautiful paper weight and for the burson, that one, i never really understand it.  i've been to two different places for a listen and it's so bad that i think i might get banned for speaking how i fell about the "flavor of the month"

At least on paper, the 32 ohm T5p would be ideal for the Leben CS300XS, from a electrical perspective.

yea but i've read lower impedance beyer sound better with ss amp like darth beyer?  high/higher impendance beyer sound better with tube.  maybe that's the case here as well?

I don't think it's that simple.  Low impedance Beyers will likely not sound great on an OTL tube amp with a high-ish output impedance.  High impedance Beyers do very well with OTL tube amps.  But the Leben is transformer coupled, not OTL, and is optimized for 32 ohm headphones.

guess it's not that easy to amp this "portable headphone".  i do like what i've heard from both of my ss amps though.  i prefer t5p to dt880/990 for sure.  t1....i need more time

Out of my Leben the T5P's bass still sounds weak. Maybe I got used to the bass of ED10 and UE18 Pro ( and now the LCD2). Doesn't matter though as I only use the T5P in office now.

This is actually something that I should really think over. I am looking at Jan's offerings and thinking either Symphony or StageDAC (DAC Magic maybe) + Concerto. It seems that the 2 component setup may be a bit better, but at the same time it is 1050Euros which is 150 Euros more than the Burson HA-160D and 250 Euros more than Burson  HA-160 and DAC Magic.

It seems to me however, that DACMagic may be a bit out of the league of HA-160D or StageDAC so I will remove it from my list.

I read a review at 6moons with HA-160 vs Concerto and it seemed that Concerto was a tiny bit better - it would be mor eexpensive to buy too, though. Should I care about 100 euros at this price level though?

Crossed out of my list, thanks for the tip ;)

I read quite a few reviews and it seemed to be a well engineered piee of equipment with good price-performance ratio. I am leaning toward Jan's products though as in reviews they seem to be better than the Burson.

The one thing that is stopping me from just buying Jan's offerings is the fact that the Burson amp/ DAC was described as a bit smoother vs Conerto/ being a bit dryer compared to HA-160. Taking into consideration that my phones are a bit bright, I am still thinking whether the Burson amp/DAC would ont be a better choice.

Here is the thread I created for this and I would appreciate any input from anyone who has any thoughts on this.

Thanks in advance,
Szadzik

I am stuck. I just talked to Jan and Symphony is no longer available, He only has 1 StageDAC and one Concerto available - one of them in black and one in silver.

New products should be ready in 3-4 months.

You could potentially get NFB-10WM and balance the T5p. Speaking of balance. Does the post y-split part of the T5p cable have a 2 separate or a common ground cable?

Balancing them crossed my mind for a split second, but then I decided that wanting to use them as portables I would have to purchase another amp for portable use and I am too happy with what I have to buy one more.
