Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

Just had a look - cheapest I could find was $498.00 + $66 for shipping equates to $745.00 AUD. Cheaper to buy them new here in Australia which was why I was inquiring re the price TRANCE paid as he too resides in Australia.

You got to keep an eye out for the deals. For example, I purchased a pair of 990's pro 600 ohm from Newegg for 150 shipped. The next day they were back to regular price. I know you live in Australia but in the US black friday sales can be awsome. Woo audio cuts their prices by a couple huns for black friday. Good luck to you.

I know this has been brought up earlier in the thread, but would really appreciate comments on DT1770 vs T5P first gen for classical, mostly orchestral music, I did try the T5p second gen but ultimately returned it due to warm sound and lack of separation. Would be willing to go for T5p original, or DT1770 if either are neutral, with better seperation and less congestion for larger scale orchestral works. Would great appreciate thoughts in this regard,

Orchestral is one genre that demands a large soundstage, and while the DT1770s are above average for a closed-back, it can't compete on soundstage with an open-backed headphone at a similar price point. The only closed-back I've ever heard that can really compete is the now-discontinued MrSpeakers Alpha Prime. I haven't heard the new MrSpeakers Ether C, so I can't comment on whether its soundstage is equally good.

The HIFIMAN HE-560 (an open-backed, planar dynamic) is brighter, less bassy and more difficult to drive than the DT1770s, but it's definitely better for orchestral.

Hey everyone, I want to pick up a durable, but less bulky, case for the dt1770. I'm eyeing up the Slappa SLAPPA SL-HP-07.

Does anyone have any recommendations for something similar or a better fit. I also like the Geekria case amazon sells.

Thanks,
Joe

The Beyerdynamic DT Hard Case is probably about as compact as you'll get for the DT1770, plus you'll know that the DT1770 will fit exactly.

I just bought that DT Case. Quality is excellent and the Case probably the most compact you could possible get.

Ahh... Thanks! I thought @slaphead was referrign to the cinder block-shaped case that comes in the box.

I'll see where I can get a deal that that case; looks perfect.

There is no DT 1880 :D
On IFA you will be able to see the DT 1990 Pro, which will cost something arround the DT 1770 I guess.

RRP is €599 like DT1770

I wonder if the 1990 will have more lows than the 1770, hopefully without that 990 treble though. The 1770 is fantastic as is even with bass but if it loosened a hair on bass it'd be a audiophile fun sound.

An audiophile fun sound is the last thing you want from a monitoring headphone - that's what beyers consumer range is for. Personally I'm hoping for something closer to the DT880s tonal signature, but with more detail.
