Thought it may be of interest...
I just picked up a pair of the COP from Amazon. I placed my order for the "COP(discontinued by mfg.)" because I knew they were the same model as the + without the extra cable and accessories and thus were $30USD cheaper. Lo and behold, I received the COP Plus, incidentally both new model box AND sticker. I guess they wanted consumers to be aware that it included the cable with remote as the only indication is in small print at the very bottom. Easy to overlook sans sticker.
Only briefly listened to a few familiar high quality tracks with DAP+Amp with no EQ either from amp or software, and it didn't make me want to immediately return it. So I guess that's a good thing.
My biggest concerns are: the low impedance, as I like what I would guess to be above average listening levels. Resolving ability. As much as I appreciate well mastered music and the ability to listen with incredible clarity, I am beginning to think that I prefer a friendlier tone as I find vocals can get to be artificial and almost sounds a bit like a generated voice rather than a human when listening to headphones that are known for their resolution. Much like the first CD players sounded when they first came out. DAC's have come a long way since then! I want clarity without that artificial presence.
Opinions seem to be all over the place about these, so I'm eager to have an extended listen and give them a good workout. I'm really trying to find a decent set of phones that I can enjoy high fidelity once again as I've recently changed residence and no longer have the room for my excellent floor speakers and audio equipment to listen optimally anymore
. I have always had decent IEM's, but they were never my primary source of audio. I'm looking for that big sound again and I hope I can find it at a reasonable sub $1,000 price tag. I'm willing to pay for the sound I'm looking(listening?) for, but I'm not going to pay $300-$700 more for a small difference in sound quality. I have what I would consider exceptional hearing and I can tell the difference between lossy and lossless formats so I am pretty picky when it comes to my music. It's both a blessing and a curse I guess. I'm not quite an audiophile as I don't listen to sine waves and pink noise for my enjoyment, but I appreciate and understand quite well what it takes to make good audio, both from a musician's and a technological standpoint.
I paid $169.00 USD a few days ago, so if you are looking to buy this model, order the one that reads "(discontinued by mfg.)" instead of the post for the plus model as they'll send you the plus model and you'll end up saving $30. I'd do it soon because I purchased a pair of ATH-M50x's about two weeks ago for my daughter @$119USD and today they are $149USD. They went up about two or three days later as I really thought they were a good all around set, so I was going to order another pair. I'd probably be happy with them, but I'd like to try to do a margin better. I thought the vocals sounded computer like after extended listening time(2 or more hours at a time), and were recessed a bit for my tastes. I could definitely live with them, but I'd like to find something without compromising. We'll see if this turns out to be a good purchase or not.
Oh, first post, but I've been a long time lurker/reader. I just wanted to pass along the info on what I thought was a good deal for anyone in the market for this set of headphones. Didn't mean to get so long winded, but talking about audio does that to me. Good to be part of the community finally.
