Hi,

I was wondering what recommendations you have for a solid state amp to use with Senn 650s. I listen to all different types of music, but focus primarily on rock and jazz.

Thanks!

These are what i would look into, in no particular order:

1. Tubesville Noise Duality
2. Singlepower SS-1.
3. SDS-XLR
4. SFT Dynamight
5. Balanced Headroom Max
6. RSA-B52
7. Zana Deux
8. Headamp GS-X
9. Woo 5
10. Cary 300SEI
11. Moth Xana
12. Rudistor RB010-MKII

B-52. Heard it sounds DIVINE.

FallenAngel had some really good advice. Just take a look at a few of those amps he listed to get a feel for each one's price range and make a decision from there. All of those should sound pretty darn good with an HD650.

For pure, uncolored power, the Dynamight is the best I've heard.

Yup, not just because I am selling one but besides the Singlepower SS-1 (15k) Rudistor amps have amazing synergy. I haven't heard the Dynamight/B22 but those should be good too.

What about the Benchmark DAC1 ?

People say good things about it single ended and balanced. I am a bit skeptical of how great it is as an amp single ended compared to other offers in the similar price range, I mean it is a DAC, however I can see how if you are utilizing it balanced it might sound pretty good.

Edit: Hrm I should clarify. I haven't heard the DAC used as an amp before, but I do consider it to be quite a good sounding DAC as I have heard it in that capacity (And seriously wanted to buy one for the longest time).

I have a Benchmark DAC1 USB (latest model) and I can say the HD650 sounds impressive with it. The DAC1 USB is ruthlessly accurate and revealing, and have more than enough juice to let the HD650 (singled ended) sing.

One the other hand, using the balanced output (in variable mode) to drive a HD650 balanced sounds great - until I compare it to RPX-100 in balanced mode. The RPX-100 wins hands down.
