Best IEM tips?

I hear great things about divinus velvet tips. I got some on the way. Otherwise I use moondrop spring tips.
Quite a large difference between these in terms of both fit and SQ. Personally, I have never gotten on with the Spring Tips, but I like the standard Divinus Velvets. I don't currently use them on any of my sets, but (for me) they make for a good baseline to branch out from.

What do you enjoy? I'd like to try out something new. I got some clarions, divinus velvets, tangzus and some xlastic iis coming
None of my IEMs has the same tips on them, so I couldn't really say. Each set of IEMs fits my ears differently and needs its own distinct set of tips. Either I'm just super picky about fit, or my ears are really that funky (or both). Some IEMs need a shallow fit. Some a deep fit. Some need wide bore. Some narrow. Some need a sticky material. Some smooth. Some need a spherical tip. Some a conical one. And so on. It really depends on your ear, the IEM, and your listening preferences. IMO there are just too many variables to simply say: get these tips.

My suggestion is to get as many different tips as you can afford, and try them all. Then get some more tips, and try those too. And if some sets still don't fit right, get more tips, and try those ones. And then, after all that, if you still can't get a good fit, sell the IEMs.

That is genuinely all anybody needs to know about picking ear tips, this thread could literally stop there !

I just got Fiio HS20 and oh wow... Thin and soft, great seal, very comfortable. Once it heats up to your body temp they basically disappear in your ears. I tried SpinFit, Spiral Dot OG and the latest ones ( still like both ). But HS20 just takes the crown.
I got the HS20, tried all 3 sizes to see if i was getting something wrong, too thin, no seal, so YMMV. they feel like i put on the IEM with no tips.

I haven't even bothered to unpack the ones that came with the FH19 for this very reason. They remind me a lot of the Softears UCs, which I never had any luck with them myself. The latter are just too flimsy to my taste.

Divinus Velvet: what about the size? I have Type-E S, but AZLA and W1 SS, but CP145 S. What should I use for the Velvet?
I use those same sizes. Divinus Velvet S for me didn't seal in my right ear. I'd suggest MS

They don’t make SS so your options are S or MS.

I would expect that with the shape of the Velvet you would not typically need a size bigger than you would usually use with other tips.

That said, there is little chance anyone else can give you a definitive answer since your ear anatomy is unique to you. You are best to get both and try for yourself.

I don't recommend even comparing sizes by letter because they don't measure the same across different manufacturers or even models. Spinfit w1 ss is a little over 10mm wide, while divinus velvet s is under 10mm, so that's an example of an ss being wider than an s.

That is very true and something I do check myself for my own use and something I did here also.

In our chaps case a Type E in S is a little bit bigger diameter than an S Velvet but the shape is different which can make a significant difference to the effectiveness of the fit.

I looked at the diameters of the tips and I have three of the four types of tips being discussed in sizes that work for me. Based on that I believe it is 100 % accurate to say the best recommendation is to get both sizes and try for himself.

Neither you nor I have any way to know what will work best for him despite our best educated guesses based on our experiences.

For these exact reasons, I have always ordered tips by their diameter and not by their letter size designation. Speaking for myself, I can say that 14mm diameter tips create a good seal for me regardless of manufacturer or shape differences.
Yes of course I do the same, but the Velvets are between two sizes in the diameter.
