Thanks laxx. i appreciate that. i too used to be different when i was younger (and im only 23) and living and socialising where i did, i got into several fights and scrapes with would be muggers. One of my friends at the time got stabbed pretty badly (nearly fataly) in a similar situation, so i am very aware of what can happen.
its a shame that all i have now is a pair of ibud's, (i got dt770's for home, so thats not too bad) i have just had to pay my student fees too, so i wont be able to afford anything for a long long time. The worst thing is that my listening time has been severly cut short, im allways somewhere noisy and those ibuds dont isolate at all! maybe i can get a pair of e4's or something for x-mas....

Any donations would be very much appreciated................

I hope you begin taking self defense classes before buying any DAP again.

The same dude will rob you again if he get the same chance. He punched you before now he will go for the kill if you are not prepared.

Sorry to hear about your loss Jonny, I really am because I went through that same situation with 6 or 7 guys on the street in 2003. I was in the 8th grade at the time, and going to the music store to pick up a CD. While on my way a gang of guys walked toward me and one asked me for a dollar and I said no I dont have a dollar and then next thing you know I get packed in the face twice and knocked down on the ground. Then one of them said lets take his headphones and CD player and when I heard that I got up running and ran in the middle of the street but before I got to the street one of the guys grabbed the hood of my coat and ripped it off. But at least I was lucky enough to get away with my stuff even though they tore up my coat trying to get it.

But I think you did the right thing with giving your stuff up like that because things can get replaced not you. Cause after a few weeks my CD player fell apart along with headphones and the CD I was listening to wore out. The reason why I'm telling you this part is that things don't last forever, and you probably would have ended up selling it anyway in a couple of months.

In my country (Panama) if someone wants to rob, they use 2-3 ppl with a 9mm gun or some other firearm, not a knife much less with a woman...

Shame on you man.

no offense to anyone really... but that's probably the stupidest thing i've ever seen as of yet at head-fi

Jonny, you did the right thing in the end. Don't let these cowards behind a computer criticize you or your actions. They would probably cry and grovel if placed in the same predicament. It takes a strong person to walk away. It indicates you value life over some stupid electronics and your actions are a testament to your character. Additionally, the way you take these cowards criticism in stride is awesome.

In fact, I would contribute to helping ease the costs of you getting your equipment back. Being unemployed (just graduated college) kinda limits my monetary contribution. However, I'd be willing to send you my personal pair of KSC75s (great condition) for being a stand-up guy. Its not much, but it'll help you get back on your feet. Hit me with a PM, yo.

Coward, who ? Are you kidding right...?
He got punched to the floor by the robber. Replace that punch with a knife or gun and what you get ?
He should be prepared for anything and everything.
I learned that the same way as him. Got robbed like when I was a kid by two big men that wanted my watch. Go robbed but at least I trowed them a big f$#5#$nnng stone.

Please. First of all, he got SUCKER punched and I can imagine he became disoriented. After the split second it takes to clear your thoughts and assess the situation, the guy has already pulled a knife. Is it worth attempting to fight a drug-deprived criminal over some electronics at the potential cost of your life? Is that heroic to you?

I live in Seattle where we have many transients. Most of them are harmless and are just looking for some change or a couple of bucks. Many, perhaps most of them are not looking to rob anyone or commit a crime. When one of them asks me for change I don't brace myself for a life-or-death battle royale. Why should Jonny have expected that?

Look, hindsight is always in 20/20 and I imagine he could have done a number of things to potentially keep his gear. Given his circumstances, he did the right (and intelligent) thing by not risking his life. In that sense he is far from a coward and if your brain can't grasp that concept, than lets hope you aren't stabbed one day out of sheer stupidity for something as meaningless (in the broad scheme of things) as portable audio.

Just go away. You're not helping. I'm sure if you got robbed you wouldn't like us saying too bad, suck it up.

Anyways. Sorry you got robbed. It must suck to have to replace all that gear. You did the right thing though. $500 worth of gear isn't worth your life.
