No it just means you need a separate converter for your digital signal. The Aune only acts as an amplifier, and a fairly good one at that.
I think that's what you're asking at least?
Well, the way I see it, say you hook your phone up to a pair of headphones, your phone has both a DAC & Amplifier inside it, albeit not usually a very good one. To bypass the internal amp & dac of your phone, the amp would need to accept an untouched digital sigbal. If it's analog, then it simply passes through your phone's dac & amp before passing through the Aune, creating a double amp, which is slightly more lossy and essentially just louder.
If, like you said, you use an external DAC, you're still using the amp inside your phone.
I don't see a way past this if the amp only accepts analog input.
