I'm liking the sound out of the box, but I prefer the planar sundaras sonically. I needed a closed back because the wife was mad at the sound leaking out next to her, so these babies fit the solution bill.

Head-Fier
Just picked a set of Nightowls from another head-fier for $220.00 in mint condition. The best money I've spent on gear so far. Loving the sound paired with my zx300 running balanced.
If anyone wants to try the Meze 99 Noir and swap for your Nightowls let me know, I want to compare the two!

Meze has more bass, Nightowl has more expansive sound stage. I have both, love both. Meze is my portable. Meze has more forward mids as wellIf anyone wants to try the Meze 99 Noir and swap for your Nightowls let me know, I want to compare the two!
Does anyone have a link to buy the hybrid pads for the NO? Thanks

+ someone said that AudioQuest itself can get them for you upon request.

For those who use equalization, would you mind sharing your settings? Just waiting for my custom balanced cable to arrive from Arctic Cables.
This is my EQ set to use with the ultrasuede pads. This EQ is not for use with the pleather pads. I think you will be surprised with how good it sounds.
Pre-Amplifying: - 2
50Hz: + 0.5
63Hz: + 0.5
160Hz: - 0.5
200Hz: - 0.5
250Hz: - 0.5
315Hz: - 0.5
400Hz: - 0.5
1.6kHz: + 0.5

2.5kHz: + 0.5
3.15kHz: + 1
4kHz: + 0.5
5kHz: + 0.5
8kHz: + 0.5
16kHz: + 0.5
Edit: I will mention though that I no longer own the Nightowl. I decided to sell it recently as I was tired of the reverb that just can't be equalized out, as it is coming from the earcups and how the headphone was designed.

Interesting, thank you. So do the suede pads provide a more balanced sound? I haven't even tried them yet. This is my EQ set to use with the ultrasuede pads. This EQ is not for use with the pleather pads. I think you will be surprised with how good it sounds.

I do notice that slight reverb you mention, but it's not enough to bother me.... I don't think
Yes, the ultrasuede pads reduce the midbass bump somewhat, and increase the treble detail. To me, even with EQ, snare drums just do not sound correct with the pleather pads.

Yikes. You literally just described my minor issues with this headphone. Gonna try the alternate pads tonight. ThxYes, the ultrasuede pads reduce the midbass bump somewhat, and increase the treble detail. To me, even with EQ, snare drums just do not sound correct with the pleather pads.
