AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread

I had the same problem with both the cable and the 1/4 adapter. I just bought cables off Amazon for like $19.98 each.

They use the same cables as the Oppo PM-1 and Sennheiser HD700, but also the Sol Republic HD. Something strange, if you search HD700 or Oppo the cable will come up for $49 all the way to $119, but if you search for Sol Republic you get exactly the same cable brand name and all for as low as $11.99, lol.

*edit*

Of course all this is unnecessary if the new Audioquest cable kicks ass and I'll definitely be getting several if that's the case

Curious if you have tried any of the cables linked above?

Several have a 3 piece 2.5mm ear piece plug unlike the 2 piece 2.5mm found on the stock NightHawk cables.

I would love to find an inexpensive balanced cable designed for a Pono player terminated with two 3.5 mm plugs at the player end.

Moon Audio Blue Dragon, with balanced connectors for the Sony PHA-3 (work rig).

Surprising improvement over the SE cable; well, it's louder, anyway. More listening required.

I could not pass up a pair of NightHawks at the price Audio Advisor has them for. I want to compare them with my Z7's. Or as a guy that I respect his opinions on most issues here calls them, fart cannons !

I'll let y'all know what I think in the very near future!

Did you get the approval to talk about the new pads ?

I'm anxious to see what a non-defective Utopia sounds like. Still waiting on a replacement pair

I've been pretty amazed by the Nighthawks' scaling ability..............from a smartphone all the way up to something like Dave, they sound great.

I don't think they like tubes though.

Sorry - this is quite a late reply. I run my NHs from a Little Dot MkIII and the sound is just gorgeous. I thought there was a chance they might be a little too warm when used together, but not at all - just a lovely, full, musical presentation. When on the move I run the NHs from a Cayin C5 and it's a lovely sound - especially for a portable set - but there is a noticeable upshift in resolution on the Little Dot.

So Nighthawks and tubes can live in perfect harmony!

I am really enjoying the "thick" presentation of these...I wonder why?

Because they sound natural and gorgeous? That's why I love them. I was listening to them last night, rotating between pads and then switched to Meze 99 Classics because I also just got in the deeper pads for them, too. I love the 99 Classics, but they just sounded so lacking in body after listening to Nighthawks.

I didn't get any disapproval, so I'm assuming I have approval. If you know otherwise, let me know meng. I'm just a busy-ish buy. However... I'm a bachelor without kids for the weekend, so I'm ready to get some serious comparisons in

They do sound natural. Did the nightowl sound natural when you compared them?

I don't but am totally willing to take one for the team. They're on Amazon, right? If so, I'll grab a pair and can compare soon. Angled or not, that's the question...
