Audiophile iOS audio player

Apologies for asking dumb questions but I'm currently in the process of switching from Android phone to iPhone 16 Pro Max, and I'm confused as to how the iOS works in general when it comes to playing off-line music files.
  • In relation to transferring music files to iPhone, do I need to install and use iTunes on my Windows? Is it not simple as plugging the iPhone to my PC and manually transferring files via windows file explorer?
  • I've noticed that Musicolet is not available on iOS. To play .flac files, are the above recommendations (Flacbox, Plexamp, Foobar, Neutron player etc) solid choices for off-line players?
Thanks guys.

File management on iOS is more complicated than on Windows or Android. Also, iOS Music app does not support FLAC audio file playback, only mp3, AAC or ALAC. Fortunately, other sound player applications do support other formats, and logically FLAC.

I use FLACBOX as my music player, as it has support for FLAC, both in local files and in the cloud, and is able to change the audio output resolution over USB for bitperfect playback. In my case, I use an iPad as a streamer with FLACBOX as a player, connected to an external DAC via USB.

The file transfer can be done from the cloud to the iPhone, with the iOS Files application or from a Windows PC if we connect the iPhone to iTunes (in phase of extinction) or to the Apple Devices application that is replacing it, but in the last two cases you have to connect the i<phone to the PC thru USB and access the applications section (on iTunes or Apple Devices apps) and choose the application that will receive the files in order to transfer them (in my case, FLACBOX).

Previously in any case you have to create the destination folder within the application that receives the files (FLACBOX), since in iOS the applications, with some exceptions, only handle their own data, and do not have access to folders or files that belong to the system or other applications.

Thanks for the clarification, really appreciate it.

Just regarding creation of destination folder, can that be done through that Apple Devices app?

I am not sure if it can be done. What works for sure is to create the folder from the “files in this app” section of FLACBOX on the iPhone or iPad, before transfering files. let me check it and I'll let you know the result by private message
