When I tried the AD2000X at the Tokyo show (in a quiet room, thankfully) the grain of the AD2000 seemed not to be there. Very tempted to pick up both these and the LTD to try out.

could i ask you to detail differences, if any, in the pads - including material, thickness and angling?

I wish I'd noted more information, so I'm sorry to say I don't remember. I was mainly wondering if they'd made significant changes and, if so, whether it'd be worth picking up a pair to try.

Does anyone know where I can buy the ad900x headphones for a reasonable price

That's precisely what I want to know.
Plus, I have another dilemma (not counting the AKG K550 dilemma):

A900(closed)  or AD900X   (open) ???

P.S.
From  amazon.com:
- the AD900  (open) cost $179
- the A900X (closed) cost about $233
- the AD900(open) cost  ???

I ordered mine through Tenso forwarding service. It ended up being around $250 shipped. Considering how new these are for the overall cost I think it is a good deal. I payed $335 or so for my A900X when those came out from AudioCubes. Google Tenso forwarding service. Don't be afraid to try it. It is much simpler than anyone thinks. I know there is a language barrier but if you read how Tenso works it is about as easy as it gets.
