Audio-Technica M50xBT Impressions Thread

Just picked these up yesterday and have been listening to them for about 8 hours (cumulative). So far, very impressed.

To me they sound very much like the M50x (based on memory and "emotive impressions"). Unfortunately, I don't have a wired M50x on hand to A/B.

Over AAC, the BASS is textured and extends throughout the frequency range. It doesn't overpower the mix, nor does it shy away. It's very distinct in its presence with no appreciable bleed. As anticipated, the MID range is absolutely fantastic. Both male and female vocals are distinct & detailed, with nuanced inflections easily reproduced. Acoustic Guitar on these is like ear porn. TREBLE is never piercing or overly bright, rather, it's very open & airy.

Transparency and Instrument separation is fantastic, effortlessly isolating each instrument and it's respective character. For a closed back, the soundstage is much better than I was anticipating.

Comfort is about the same as the M50x, which is average. I can use these for hours with no issues.

The MIC is average. My voice, volume-wise, is good, and while still intelligible, it's a bit on the muffled side. It's competent enough for general phone calls, but it might not be the best choice for business calls.

So far, I'm really enjoying these. If you're looking for pure sound quality, wirelessly, the M50xBT can't be beat, especially at $199 (worth every penny).

How would you compare them to the Sennheiser momentum 2.0 wireless?

I have recently purchased these headphones and whenever I turn on the bluetooth the headphones start to make a faint static noise(/white noise) when no audio is playing or when I play music at a very low volume. When I turn the volume up the noise fades away but returns when a song ends or when I turn the volume down. Is this normal?

I just bought these and I am mighty impressed. I hear so much detail and find them comfortable. I don't hear buzzing when connected to BT with nothing playing. I use Apple devices (MacBook, iPhone and iPad) and have not found a quick way to switch from one device to another.

I own the Bose QC35 (first version) and they will pair to two devices at the same time. But I love the sound of the Audio-Technica M50xBT so unless I find a quick way to switch BT devices will probably just leave them paired to my iPhone and use them at home. Kind of clunky for walking down the street.

Had these for a few days, and while they sounded nice and were rather comfortable, I nevertheless sent them back. Treble was a bit unrefined to me, bass well structured but missing a bit of depth. I did not much like the look of the headband and the overall a bit too massive looks with those hinges standing out most.
Pairing was simple, buttons on the left earpiece could be easier to differentiate with a bit more structure. Solid headphone at its asking price, but it did not add anything over my V-Moda CF2 Codex that would have made me switch. And somehow I recently outgrew the "oh, I'll keep it because its... nice".

What do you think of the V-Moda CF2 Codex?

To me it's a very nice signature, fun but not overdone. Folds into a really small package, is robust and has usable battery life (though not on par with the M50xBT). The. Codex edition added AAC at last (which the M50x also offers), which I use since my source is an iPhone.

Thank you. That's helpful. I like the M50x very much but wish it would pair to two BT devices at the same time, which I understand the V-Moda will do.

That's correct: V-Modas Bluetooth models can be paired with two devices, which works fine (though there are edge cases). I once used that to pair th CF2 with both my iPhone and an AK380, listening to music from the AK player while being able to answer incoming phone calls. I don't carry the AK around anymore, so the M50xBT not supporting this configuration did not matter much.

M50xbt has this mild static noise and crackling when no music is playing or music is playing at low volume. I checked another piece at bestbuy and I also noticed a review at Amazon which mentions the noise. From the discussion above it seems that not everyone can hear the noise (I guess it depends on the sensitivity of one's ears.)

I just ordered the V-Moda Codex. I want to try them. Thank you.

Well I am listening to the M50XBT right now and just paused the sound and they were dead silent. I don't know how sensitive my hearing is but to my ears they sound great.

If I listen carefully in a quiet environment, I can hear it. I didn't originally notice it, but yes, I can hear it. Honestly, it's so mild it doesn't bother me, and I'm a bit OCD.

I actually replaced the ear pads with the Brainwavz sheepskin ear pads for the Sony 7506 and they work like a charm. Better isolation, better basis texture, mids, and a city in the top end treble peaks. It's a warmer sig, so YMMV in terms of preference.

I recently bought M50xBT. I noticed that there is a mild static noise when the headphone is connected to a phone via bluetooth and when no music is playing. It would be great if someone could confirm this mild buzz or static noise on bluetooth when no music is playing.

This!! idk, but its kinda unpleasant and seems like an issue to me. I don't wanna listen on high volume level just to avoid this static noise, and every time song switches to another, I hear it... really annoying
