I hardly think you need to apologise for not knowing that....

Today I have ordered a MF X-CAN V8. It will arrive in a couple of days.
After a burn in I will compare my W5000 and A2000X again.
Till now I prefer the ATH-A2000X.

Greetings

I find the v8 a really nice upgrade to the v3. The v8 is a great amp for a very moderate price.

Kees, you were right!
But I have to admit, that the ATH-A2000X sounded less forgiving with some of my older discs (classical 1950/60). I have seen that before: better equipment, less forgiving.
Otherwise, I stand by my earlier statements.

Greetings

Maybe, you have missed these messages.

Hello Mecc

The box of the ATH-A2000X told me:

The earpads are made from Clarino, a leather substitute that is durable yet comfortably soft and pliable

I never heard of Clarino, so I searched:

Kuraray America Clarino - Products

Quote:

@Decel: Clarino is I suppose technically pleather, but it's not what they use when most people say 'pleather'. It does actually breathe like leather and personally, I found the clarino pads better for long-term wear than the sheepskin A-T used in its flagships.

The Clarion on the A2000X feels a little softer, than the W5000 leather.
I have no problems with the A2000X pads. I have used them for hours continuously.
No humidity problems.
I hope the costs are made by improving the sound quality. Yes: the price tag is high. But that’s the market. If nobody sells it, the price will drop down.

Guys these are 400-500 Euro headphones, not highend. The pads are absolutely fantastic and very comfortable. Much better as the DX1000 pads for example and that one costs a bit more.

The 1400$ HD800 pads are a joke no matter how their marketing turns it around.

Today I tried my ATH-A2000X with my different Amps: PS AUDIO GCHA and MF X-CAN V8. I have no amplifier or source with a headphone output.
Remarkable: there was no big difference.
The X-CAN sounded a little more spacious; the GCHA a little more precise.
But again: there were no huge differences.
With both amplifiers the ATH-A2000X sounded beautiful.
For the present I will use the X-CAN.
Are there other members of this forum using the ATH-A2000X?
I am curious, which amplifier they use.
SS Tubes Hybrid ?

Greetings

In addition to the previous message

After a visit to a concert hall I decided to compare my amplifiers again. I changed my mind and will use my PS AUDIO GCHA. This brings me closer to a live performance.
Afterwards I compared the ATH-A2000X with my ATH-W5000.
Indeed, the W5000 sounded fast, airy, detailed, and a good soundstage. But the midrange colouring was noticed immediately.
To my ears the A2000X sounded airy and detailed; it has excellent instrument separation and a huge soundstage. And it is because of these characteristics I prefer the A2000X.

Regards

Hoi,

Sorry to ask again, but now you've had some more time with the headphones: which set of earpads do you think is more comfortable?

I'm still waiting to buy the A2000x earpads when they become available for sale separately, but dunno if I should just go with the real leather pads of the W5000/L3000.

For my taste the A2000x pads offer better comfort as it's easier to get perfect seal compared to the W5000 pads. If the W5000 pads didnt have this shortcomming i'd prefer them.

I'm not sure how they will fit on other headphones, only tried them on my AD2000 but i can't remember how the fit was.

Hey, thanks.
If they fit on the AD2000 they should go on my W11JPN too.

Too bad they don't sell them separately yet (model HP-A2000X with list price of 2500 yen).

I agree.
Despite the small difference in weight (40 g), on my head the A2000X feels much lighter.

I think with the A2000X you may be better off with other tubes in the v8. The standard tubes are rather on the airy and thin side, not bad at all, but maybe not the ideal combination with these phones.
Try the 6N23-EB (cheap) or the very lush and excellent Mullard ECC88 (not so cheap).
