Audio-Technica Announces A1000X and A2000X
Nov 12, 2008 at 10:54 AM Post #31 of 77
Hey everyone, well, I was planning on buying a w5000 but now I will wait to see what the verdict will be on the a2000 vsw5000 (especially since they seem to be evenly priced though the price of the a2000 might go down of course). I also wonder about comparisons between ad2000 and a2000.
Should be a very nice chrismas for some folks!
Greetings, Anouk,

Wow... new AT flagships? I wonder how the A2000X compares to the W5000 and L3000... The L3000 is good but the W5000 is crap, so this will be interesting. They sure look good.

Surprising how many people adore "crap" sound and consider W5000 the best dynamic currently in production.

According to their website they use a new designed driver as well as different material.

They claim its magnesium alloy now, not just plain Ti...
Anyone up for scraping a piece of a cup off to prove that? =)

According to their official site the cups are still in titanium and the fame is in magnesium alloy.
I don't think that I'd be able to tell the difference between titanium, that magnenium thing or aluminium anyway

My d7000 frame is supposedly made of magnesium as well and it certainly looks like aluminium with a slightly darker color but I guess color can be easily made different.

Anyone tried to order the a2000x from bluetin?
They seem to be 100$+ more expensive than most japanese site but those sites still have the headphone as preorder and announced on 12/5

I'll try and get a listen to a pair of either or both, but I don't hold much hope for the sound as all the ATs I've ever listened to were pretty dull, even expensive models.

Gah, good thing i don't have a legitimate excuse this time round.

Is it just me or do the 1Ks look better than the 2Ks? Maybe they mixed up the cups in manufacturing

.

Will be on the lookout for direct comparisons to the W5000 here.
They would have to sound pretty darn good to warrant such a price and not be a woodie.

someone gotta buy it and give us an impression.
Does anyone know the street price of these cans?

The cheapest shop I have seen have announced the a2000X for a bit more than 51k yen (~535$) but they are announced for december 5 on their website so I dont think anyone has bought them yet.
