At a press conference yesterday, Audio-Technica announced new flagship models for their "ART Monitor" closed headphone series. Both the ATH-A1000X and ATH-A2000X will be released in Japan on December 5. From what I have read it appears that these models are not limited releases, but rather permanent fixtures in the AT lineup that slot above the A900.

The A1000X will retail for ¥60,900 (≈$607.40), while the A2000X's MSRP is ¥78,750 (≈$785.45), although street prices should be somewhat lower (e.g. ESW9's MSRP is ¥36,000, but Amazon.co.jp sells them for ¥20,473).

Damn AT really wants all our wallets or bank accounts empty this xmas

These 2 headphones seem to use the same mechanism as the W5000 which is bad to get really proper fit. BUT if you check the pictures in the link of them being worn it looks fine for me as far i can see.
Lets hope for the best

I’ve bought a MacBook Air ~5 hours ago. Anybody interested?

Just kidding. Guess I’ll have to wait some months before I’d be able to buy one of those..

Looks like they got the W5000 headband system, IMO that's a bad thing.

YAY! New AT headphones, that's like christmas in advance

I personally like the golden touch of the A1000X more. Gold is commonly understood as "top of the line", so I find it rather questionable that the new ART Monitor Series top model wasn't designed to be gold but silver/titanium instead.

Well, think of it as Platinum instead of silver/titanium. Also, the shiny surface really draws me further and further in... This is some big time Poison...

Hm...pads look different from W5000, so for those who are worried about fit - we don't know anything yet cause of that difference. On top of that, AD2000 method is almost the same and there are no problems there =) (Granted, AD2000 is open...)

A2000X does look phenomenal though...wish it had the L3000 style pads, then it'd be complete.

I did compare the angle of the cups and these are closer to or the same as the AD1000/2000. Thats a very good thing in terms of comfort. The W5000 cups are more "\" and "/" angled on both sides which results in the problems some people report.

The streetprice in japan is already down the usual 30%, 51000 Yen for the A2000x and 40000 Yen for the A1000x

The texture of the A1000x cups is more appealing than the A2000x ones. The A2000x pads looks like it would feel better though.

Damn, and here I thought I didn't need headphones...
