I'm still open to suggestions, but at the moment I'm looking into the Alessandro MS1s as they seem to be easier to obtain than the SR60is, and cheaper (even if they are caught by customs), could someone please link me to the Alessandro site, because the one I found looks decidedly dodgy.

Also, I'm looking for a headphone holder/stand, and was wondering if I could use a polystyrene head, like the ones from craft stores, or would one in some way damage a pair of headphones?

After more searching (and budget stretching) it seems as though I should go for some Senn PX100s (~£23) for travelling and then maybe Alessandro MS1s / Shure SRH840s / Audio Technica ATH-M50s for home use?

if you think you look stupid with the 25s on, you will most probably look worse with any other type of headphone.
they are subtle - best way to describe it.

youd look just as stupid in the portables such as px200s (if you think you look stupid in 25s) - i for one dont :p

After looking around more, if I were to buy some cans to play music from my MacBook Pro, would I need a DAC?

So now I have to decide between:

AKG k701

Sennheiser HD600

Shure SRH840

Sennheiser HD595

Audio Technica ATH-M50

Alessandro MS1i

Which ones are the best for rock unamped playing ALACs from a Macbook Pro?

(I apologise profusely for both the sneaky 'bump' and this thread, but I still haven't yielded any concrete evidence upon which to make a decision from hours of searching)

Since you will be traveling with them, the Senn, AKG, Alessandro should be scratched out, they're not portable at all.  That would only leave you with the M50, 840.  Now, I've heard the 840, and I really like them but I find them bulky and I wouldn't wear them outside.  Never heard or seen the M50, but I hear they are bass heavy, not the best for rock.  I don't really want to promote this particular headphone, but take a look at the Ortofon O-One.  I generally listen to rock and find them more than adequate.  And, I find them more portable than the 840s, and more stylish.  Also take a look at some Ultrasones.

Well, after awhile I decided that I probably just buy some PX100s for travelling, so these would be just for home use. I thought I'd check this thread one more time as I was very close to going ahead and buying M50s, until I checked the thread and also saw that I could get Grado SR60i or 80is from a UK retailer.

What prices would make the ATH-M50s and SR60i/80is worth it? Taking into account that people get everything ridiculously cheaply in the US :xf_mad:

That would be extremely difficult, especially seeing as the going rate for Grado SR80is is £107.95 ($171.31), and the M50s are proving difficult to track down, especially as I've read iHeadphones aren't authorised dealers.
