Audio-gd R2R 11

Had a set of 2 jumpers in the box with a portable amp that arrived luckily...I prefer the warmer settings now...but its not a major difference to my ears...it balances out the clinical THXAAA on top and meets in the middle...natural presentation/excellent separation and dynamics...wonder if R28 has much better discrete amp inside as the R11 is a bit collapsed in and crowded when A|B'ing against balanced amps...but a great all-rounder for the price anyway.
R2R11 sounds very well on speakers, but I feel that headphone amp could be better with my HD600. According to the review on the SA forum R28 beats 789 by a margin, so the answer is yes, it has a proper amp. It is the same amp as in NFB-1AMP which has a good reputation.

I'd love to try the R2R section line-out with Martin Logan hybrid AM/cone floorstanders...something like that - or ML e-stat hybridss....presentation would be so liquid and fast....mind fryingly so with stats :robot:

The warm jumpers do sound rolled off and losing some details on top, I prefer the stock sound.
Probably, but THX amp is like a scalpel - so it balanced out with warm jumpers in over here !

Using some measurements to define audio equipment performance, is similar to using a tape measure to define how good looking someone is.
I'm putting that amazing statement in my sig and attributing it to you. If you want me to remove it, just let me know and I will. Amazing words. Thank you!

Not sure if thread search function is not fully working (saw that over the last week) but could not dig anything 'Ares' out the thread...and so has anyone stepped up to Denafrips Ares ll Dac from R2R-11 and found it worth it or only a marginal improvement ?

I had the R2R11 twice so as the Ares 2 twice.. They're completely different. Owning both is great but there's a huge price difference. For my preferences, I'd take the R2R11.

Is the Ares 2 brighter and/or thinnner..they would not be good for my preference...though I'm still curious to test it out...
also much difference going coax over USB ( I know you had i2s at one point)

Hi guys
I have a question
I would like to install i2s kit on my r2r r11 (i have already amanero module) is it possible...and how?
Thanks
Of course. It was a custom option on a special request. Find out pinout description of the DA-8 module on the Audio GD website. Some non-important pictures are missing, so better go to the authorised specialists website like Magna HiFi, or even better Audiophonics who sell these modules for more details. They also do in-house upgrades, so they will be able to help in your individual case.

It is a DIY project, so you must be clever. By example, I didn't find information what logic signal levels are required (LVDS or something else), but you can go to the Amanero website and find out, as it is a plug-in solution, no glue logic nor level shifter is between. :)

Be careful what you wish for, I tried R2R11 I2S with Gustard U16 / U12 / DI20 / SU2 / D10. While all were great I got back to R2R11 EP 2017 with amanero, Kingwa knows what he's doing.

Good point. It is a beatiful nature of R2R-11, I love it. In some systems it sounds fantastic, releaving really high-end sound structures. Comparable to the higher priced products. Amanero USB interface works in the optimum mode feeding I2S Amanero output directly to a ladder, while more expensive wasted an opportunity by doing additional reclocking. It was before Audio GD 2021 models came out.

All competitors do reclocking no matter what, they have yet to follow changes made in Audio GD 2021 models. It is why Gustards, Singxers, Denafrips and others can sound inferior than a direct connection through the Amanero. I only wonder why DI-20 is on your list, as it had bi-directional USB isolator from the beginning.

On the other side, this simplified design (a shortest path) is sensitive to ground loops that can ruin all benefits. General galvanic isolators give some protection from ground loops, but introduce jitter that can never be removed completely by reclocking. These more expensive models are a worry-free plug and play, work equally in all systems, this is what majority users want, but trade-off is that a peak perfomance can never be achieved.

Better results give removing ground loops at the source, it allows R2R-11 to work at a peak performance. It needs a proper planning and additional tweaking in your system. This thread should be filled-up with various proposals, but people frequently give up.

The r2r r11 was a very big surprise for me. I immediately sold my Topping D50s (I prefer much more the analogic sound of r2r).
So I was tinking (just to try to improve my chain) to buy an audio gd DI 20. I red that the best connection for it is i2s. I want to buy the i2s mudule only for this reason.
Is not a good solution ?
