I just receieved notice that my nfb-10se has been delievered ... out of the country until new years, but i just ordered some neutrik 4 pin xlr connectors and everything i need to make some DIY star quad cables so i can test SE and balanced when I return.  Very glad to be vacationing in Paris, but eager to get back so I can get some listening in!

OT, but Paris in December is freakin awesome.

Been lurking in this thread forever and just decided to go for the NFB-10SE. I will most likely be pairing it with the HE500 with a balanced cable. After spendning the last 3 months deciding I think it's one of the best bang for the bucks "deals" in the high-end register.

Also, merry christmas!

Congrats on a great christmas treat! I would think the HE500 will pair well with the 10SE. Look forward to your impressions when you have it.

I wish there was an owner of the NFB10SE in South Florida, I am concerned with the comments stating the top end is energetic. I like a more laid like sound and although I am tempted I am being held back because I do like my music to have a dry treble sound.

I'm using the LCD-3 with the 10SE and listening to Sarah Chang's Vivaldi Violin Concerto and I do not think the 10SE is sharp sounding at all. The high end is incredibly smooth and neutral with a black background. Really an enjoyable listen. Also, the 10SE has 9 filter settings, so you may alter the sound to your liking depending on your preferences.

But i heard no different of the filters if you do not compare it with 16 bits and 24 bits songs.

I believe the DS puts out 49Ws into the HE-6's 50ohm load.  Compared that to the 7Ws at 50ohms of the Master-6.

I doubt any headphones would really need 49W. The only headphones I could see is HE-6. The master 5 thread has impressions of this amp.

At $3500 for the DS, you could have a Master-6/ Ref-7.1 system. Just saying.

I've usually found the former's prices to be fairly high. Not a good price/performance contender.

Ok, thanks for the input. I am still thinking about picking this up although there is a Marantz 2230 w/ a wood case for $200 in fleabay which is also very tempting.

I don't have much time now, but I wonder for those people who thought this was bright, if they could start changing the voltages on the unit. I don't have time to open it. Also, I just got mine for Christmas. Pretty great little unit.

Voltage tweaking on the Roc, for reference.

EDIT: I can't even see any trim pots on the SE.  Trim pots are easy to see on the ES though.

I have spent a lot of time over the last few days reading about 2/3 of the Audio-GD Digital Interface thread and was wondering if anyone who had and nfb-10SE and a digital interface could comment on the quality of the usb implementation on the nfb-10SE by itself and express to what degree adding the DI improves the SQ using the usb interface?

I didn't find, on casual experimentation, that my Audiophilleo 1 made any significant difference, so I'm not sure the DI would either. The only possible benefit I can see from the DI would be if the up-sampling could produce better results than the built-in oversampling.
