-Microphone quality - I totally understand why latency and audio quality were chosen over mic transmission given the limited bandwith with bluetooth. Why is this an issue with the wireless dongle however? There should be more than enough headway to allow for an incremental increase in clarity.

What it comes down to is that small companies aren't developing the wireless tech in-house. They license the IP from some third party vendor and are limited by the options the vendor provides.

This is not to mention the muffled/boomy sound I am told it sounds like on the receiving end. With that being said, I would be happy with the above audio over USB enabled so I could at least get better quality on my PC.

Something a lot of people are not aware of is that you can use wireless for the headphone audio while simultaneously using a 3.5 mm AUX cable for the microphone. This will give you the best quality from each of them. It is not very intuitive since the wireless will automatically turn off when you plug in the AUX cable, but you can press the button on the headphones to turn it back on.

They use BLE for app control and Bluetooth for audio.
Is BLE chipset dependent? I understand why LAM is specific and potentially not selected, but based on your other response is seems like BLE is a reasonable alternative. If it is chipset dependent, I don't understand why one or the other wouldn't have been selected. Heck your current product page says the Penrose is iOS compatible but you conveniently don't seem to mention there that you wont ever have, or be able to provide and iOS based app for utilization. And in that case, compatible really just means it works on BT. I'll speak for myself and someone who bought this for console and who uses an iPhone, if you had flat out stated this was not able to be controlled/configured via console or iOS, I wouldn't have even made the purchase.

Can you elaborate? This does not seem to work on my pair.

For people that have a problem with the headband, get the headband for the Beyerdynamic DT990, they are way more comfortable than stock (had minimal issues with stock), and for 8 bucks a no brainer and also not looking too bad.

I also tried some presets from Audeze with Warzone and WRC 9, will use the racing preset for racing, but for fps games I will use another (0 -1 -1 -2 -3 -3 -3 -2 -2 -1) preset, sounds better to me.

So is this a confirmation that there is no BLE on these devices and that we should never expect any of those app control features?
App control will work over wireless/Bluetooth if the platform supports it. The android app already works over bluetooth for control. We will also enable wireless control for Desktop. Unfortunately, for IOS, it requires a LAM chip which is not in the dongle to do EQ/Firmware updates. Bluetooth features like battery indicator, Volume control etc work on IOS already.

I have the dekoni nuggets on mine and they relieve a lot of pressure for me.

Thanks for the replies. I played with the mic with the pop on and off along with the positioning and angle and i just find it very finicky. Not sure if its a hardware thing with the mic which makes it extremely directional or the mic gain curve on the software side. It just seems really hit or miss to the point where I have to spend a few minutes every time I put them on to adjust to get right which is annoying.

I also find it hard to believe that they can't control the "wireless" for console/pc and the Bluetooth independently as they are separate signals coming in. I would love some clarity on this from Audeze direct.

Here is the polar plot of the microphone in Penrose. The pickup pattern in the front of the mic (270 - 0 -90) degrees is quite uniform till 10 Khz.

Not sure what you mean. if you are referring to controlling the mix between the BT audio and the wireless audio. This requires some chipset API support and we are looking into it.

BLE is chip dependent. Unfortunately we will not be able to do IOS app support. We understand this might be a dealbreaker for some people.
We are adding support where it is feasible. We added support for other consoles in Xbox version. Modified the units to support balanced mode. But IOS app support is not feasible because of licensing issue.

Will you be able to modify the iOS support so that the battery indicator shows up in the upper right? Some of my other Bluetooth headsets or true wireless buds do that but some don’t and I never understood why they didn’t.

With low latency 2.4 Ghz chipsets, bandwidth is still a big issue. It is a tradeoff between latency, range and bandwidth. There are only a couple of chipset vendors in this market and the mic quality is band limited for 2.4 Ghz in the chipset.

On IOS you can see the battery in the battery widget now. It also shows on my Android phone.

Please respond to the mic gain vs chat mix swap requests.

Right now it makes no sense. Thanks.

First time poster. I've been lurking for a week. I really want to get the Penrose but I've been fluctuating on and off due to the responses. Last few days seem to have some more positive responses. I think I will still give them a go but if I was to look at another set of cans for ps5, switch and pc what should I look at?

Arctis 7x also work on multiple platforms. The sound quality is a pretty big downgrade though. I don’t think Arctis are bad, but the penrose just sound a lot better.
