Audeze Mobius review / impressions

Exactly, they did spend time with their gaming studios refining the sound/positioning for their game mode, and it shows. Worth looking into for gaming headphone manufacturers.
Ya being able to tweak channel volume and location would be a benefit, its available in the full version of waves virtual room. OOYH lets you adjust channel volume but not location.

I didn't expect to see it on the Mobius, but maybe a future product?
Mebe ;] Youd need the bitstream receiver, decoder, and waves would need to update to incorporate the height channels. Lots more processing power.

Are you on the latest firmware? I think I am on the beta v2, but I am not 100% sure and remember reading there might have been some issue updating from that one to v3 so before I do anything I wanna make sure. As for as atmos support, I am going to say its unlikely, in part due to licensing fees, and also if they are having issues with memory on the headset for presets as I remember reading, I doubt they would be able to add another virtualization system. And I am not 100% sure atmos has the capability built in for head tracking as waves nx definitely had it built in already. Either way, only guessing.

I am using the V3 bios yes.
@KMann said any beta users should message him about updating their bios.

I mentioned above that I didn't expect Atmos to feature in the Mobius, but I feel that the planars, (possibly with an open backed design) would be a great platform to feature support for codecs like Atmos, most likely in a future product.

Planars and the more responsive drivers definitely render binaural mixes better, Im especially jealous of the people gearing up to use the Raal Requisite SR1a with a Smyth Realiser A16, thats about as good as it gets I think xD

This is true with other hifi components as well, all the high end dacs, amps, conditioning, regenerating, upgraded clocks, etc.etc. are much more profound when using binaural rendering.

that'll go to sennheiser gsx for me, which has more of an out of head feel

I've just been looking at those, It's had mixed responses but I guess that can depend on the headphones used. The ones that like it, really like it.

I was thinking maybe they could be used with the Mobius (in stereo HD) mode if you didn't raise the GSX volume too high. I don't suppose you could try it out and let me know how it is for you compared to what you are used to?

Anyone able to compare the Mobius sound quality to that of the EL-8's or SINE series headphones?

I've had a chance to do a little more testing, and you'll be pleased to know that with Crysis 3, I much prefer the Mobius. I guess it is a much more bombastic game than Dishonoured 2. The Mobius sounds fuller, deeper and represents more of the frequency range.

I'm actually quite pleased that I'll be using both headphones regularly.

Could you please give some more comparisons between the Mobius and 2cb ?

I've had more time to compare the Mobius to the he560 this weekend.
The he560 is a bit leaner in the bass, I miss some impact and punch vs Mobius.
The he560 has a touch more eveness/resolving in the upper midrange/treble than the Mobius.
I prefer voices in the Mobius, sounds more full and real.
I think it's fantastic that I prefer the Mobius with LDAC, than the he560 with Dac and amp.
Also moveability and freedom of cables is a big bonus.

I don't have much time today to try it out, however of you are feeling adventurous... https://sourceforge.net/projects/hesuvi/

Its a collection of software with convolution responses that in essence will allow you to try out a number of other surround virtualizations. As for using it with the Mobius, I am not 100% sure if it will work via USB or if you will need to use an aux cable. You definitely though need to be running the Mobius in 2 channel mode with all surround/virtualization/head tracking off.

I promise to have a write-up as soon as I take more time to examine the differences. :) It will be a slower process.

Can i ask you what is the best preset for the vocal and dialogues in movie and games ( where male and female voice are in evidence more possible ) ?

With the FLAT equalization the mids and upper mids are recessed ?
