A balanced source might give your balanced GL a boost. But I'd have to agree that it's all in the design. Apparently for example, the Chord DAVE's se outputs sound better than the supplied balanced outs. I don't have anything balanced as yet, and I'm not suffering.Still wondering how much better my triumvirate of listening devices could sound out of a fully balanced system. Someday will upgrade upstream but for now slumming with H2 and GLMk2. Although I must say that if this is slumming then I am OK surviving at a sub-standard level of SQ... =^)

I agree with all of you as I have had amps that sounded fantastic in single ended just as good as balanced out of my mj2 but I guess in certain systems it is just different. I pretty much only switched to balanced cables because I knew my Jot would give full power via balanced out and Mj is the same way. So quite happy that I made the switch or otherwise I wouldnt have noticed this difference and I mean its a noticable difference where on other amps single ended sounds just as good if not better then the balanced output.
If anyone else on here is running an MJ2 I would love to hear if you have had the same experience, cause who knows maybe I am going crazy and just hearing things that arent there. Thats always a possibility.

I think schiit designs there balanced output amps to be superior as balanced and functional single ended. I suspect that if you were to listen to the utopias on a different amp (let's say an SET) you might return to our original opinion.

Well hopefully here soon I will get a more definitive answer. I have a set of mrspeakers ether 2s on the way along with an ifi pro ican which is supposed to have a very good solid state section along with some tube settings. I am hoping to gain a little more clarity as to the truth of how all three sets of cans sound.

The interface on the top is a Sound Devices USB Pre2, which has the same internal DAC and ADC as their renowned 702T portable recorder. I would have been done with that had this Sangaku not popped up at a price I absolutely wouldn't pass up.

I have the Jotunheim but use that as an amp only. But either the balanced or multibit dac is a great way to go from people I know who use that with LCD-X or an equivalent/comparable headphone.
I just ordered the Massdrop THX AAA 789 and look forward to comparing that and my Jotun with my RME-ADI2 DAC

I use a Jot with my Yggy A2 as HP amp and preamp and love it! It won an award at TAS for 2018
Is there any other cheaper Dac's you guys can recomend, that i can use with the jot for example? I could buy it without a dac. The thing is, i need a USB dac, and it will only be used on my pc.

Modi-multibit or Modi 3 D/S depending on taste are good DACs, I prefer multibit but it's doesn't measure as well, sounds better too me.
Mimby aka Bifrost multibit is loved by many and a great choice for regular 16 bit, which I listen to mostly with Yggy as well.
Also comes in D/S for $200 less and true 24 bit for what that's worth.
I'd personally avoid a built in DAC

Man I would love to audition Yggy with a Violectric 281 or GSX-MkII someday. For the price, that dac may well be the best deal out there. I know when I used my Gungnir (original) I sure put the hours on that. And loved it too.
By all accounts the guys who own the Yggy do seem to really like it. Me spending 13k to >20k on a dac are not likely to happen any time soon. Not that I wouldn't, just can't. Plus will have to get updated balanced cabling from Trevor (Norne) as well when that wonderful day arrives... So for now just dreaming.

I used a MB Jot with my LCD-Xs, and really enjoyed it. I did move up the food chain with Schiit Dacs, but the Jot will always have a place in my heart as my first true Dac/Amp I would consider Audiophile. Recommended for sure!

I 100% agree I was quite fond of the Jot with built in multibit dac. I also owned a Questyle CMA 400i at the time which was more expensive and supposed to be better. Through much back and forth between the two with my Xs I consistently found the Jot to be the superior unit and eventually returned the CMA.I used a MB Jot with my LCD-Xs, and really enjoyed it. Have any of my fellow LCD-X owners tried the Ether 2s yet and if so how would you say they compare? I have both and am having a difficult time pinning down which one I would say is technically better. I am aware that that is an incredibly subjective statement but I would still be interested to hear anyone elses thoughts on the two.

Well I would love to hear your thoughts. I used to own the LCD X and my Ether 2’s are supposed to arrive next week. What are your impressions between them so far?
