Anybody using either the Reveal or Reveal+ plugin system wide on Windows (for example, via Equalizer APO)?
I had been using the old Reveal plugin on my main computer. I got a new laptop and installed the Reveal+ plugin since it's the easier one to get now.
I am confuse with the settings.
Equalizer APO shows the EQ applied system wide so I can see what Reveal's plugin actual does.
For reference, the old Reveal plugin doesn't have filter type setting, only "Mix" (dry <> wet) which controls the amplitude of the EQ, and a "Gain" setting:
At 55% (and gain adjusted for -3dB peak), I get this:
At 100%:
The filter looks smooth and doesn't have noticeable delay when watching videos.
This last point is where I have problem with the new Reveal+ plugin.
The plugin looks like this:
Linear Phase - High Quality
At 100%, the filter looks more like 55% for the old Reveal plugin:
The latency seems like it's > 500 ms, which is way too high for lip-sync.
The other filters look pretty ugly. I get that the comb is probably not audible, but it's still a weird looking filter.
Could be APO not interpreting the filter correctly?
Linear Phase - Medium Latency
Latency isn't that much better than High Quality. It doesn't sound nearly as bad as it looks.
Linear Phase - Low Latency
Latency is better but it's still >200 ms, so way too high for lip-sync
Minimum Phase - Zero Latency
They should call this one "zero filter". It's definitely applying an EQ so I can confirm that APO is thrown off by the Reveal+ filter somehow.
The latency is very low with this one.
In general, the Reveal+ does sound better to my ears. More open, less congested and overall more refined. Even with Minimum Phase.
@Audeze : can you think of a reason why APO would not show the EQ correctly, when it seems to work fine with the old Reveal plugin?
