All of these listings are tempting for me and I'm loving this. Getting the chance to grab one of these for a discount? O.O, I'd love to give one of these a spin on my system.
Really surprising all those sales, the LCD-5 it's the best headphone I've ever heard, I really like its forward energy... but to each one his own...

I’m in the boat to where I’m extremely tempted more so out of curiosity but I’m 95% sure I’d enjoy the headphone, I typically like my mids given a slight boost. Only thing that I might not like is just it being a planar and thus having the compression that accompanies the driver type, works great with high resolution music though for my general listening genres it isn’t usually the best for.

A technical far-developed headphone
+ EQ + amplifier with sufficient power
= very much scope.

But you can not change the basic character. No Stax I've heard so far, can punch hard...

I’m sorry if that is the umpteenth time this is being asked, but how does the LCD-5 handles something like death metal?

thanks
The heaviest metal is listen to is Slayer (so my impressions won't match 100% what you're looking for). The LCD-5 is the benchmark for drums and cymbals from all the headphones I've heard. And apparently before the LCD-5 I never heard pick slides on electric guitars because they are are so detailed and sound so correct(?) to my ears. I can make out every micro detail in the guitar strings reverberation. However; some people might find this level of detail off putting. So like everything YMMV.

I love Slayer, so I think that is quite promising. I also don’t mind excessive micro-detail at all. And from what I read about it, the LCD-5 is quite fast/dynamic, right?

Extremely fast & dynamic. It handles brickwalls in audio spectrograms with ease.

My favorite death metal is Origin, but I listen to a lot of different stuff, especially tech death and brutal death metal. The LCD-5 is absolutely phenomenal at separating blast beats and basslines out in busy passages like that, even when the recording is not great. I've heard none better for those genres.

The faster and more chaotic the music, the more the LCD-5 shines. No other headphone can reproduce percussion / strings with the precision and realness of the LCD-5, while maintaining all the details throughout the rest of the frequency range. The sound stage is not huge, but I think for some head banging rock / metal music, this may be preferred.

There are so many dependencies, but I have not heard any genre that doesn't work well on LCD-5.

Does anyone have the Utopia at home?
I would be interested to know if anyone here can confirm what is said in the video.
