I can completely accept that some people don't prefer that much energy up there though, as seen by the popularity of some of the other EQ presets out there that lower the peak to smooth things out.

This will be the case if one person likes it and another says it's shouty if both are in the same spot listening to the same exact setup and location.

If you follow any CanJam thread, the impressions across many goers are unanimous compared to the devisiveness in a head-fi thread. Also, the same person trying the same headphone on different booths says it sounds different. If someone sets up the EQ on a setup that's on booth A, that EQ won't sound good or won't apply on booth B. So again, one is better off tuning to Harman, but not by ear but by instrumentation, then work their way improving the rest of the chain until that sounds good. I found the Hugo 2 shouty for years and turns out it's because I was using a laptop/pc and usb in, which is similar to Benno's setup. But see, if I didn't know any better, I would say it was my LCD 3 and LCD4 that was shouty in the chain with the laptop + Hugo 2.

Also take into consideration Head-Fi attracts a certain listener, and has a almost group bias toward aspects that we believe to be true. If you took the mean impression of a certain thing, I'd think Head-Fi would differ from SBAF, Headphones.com, ASR etc.

I'm content for the time being. Have been up and down the ladder with all gear, DACs and Amps costing more and less. Way too many headphones. Process of finding elements that align with your preferences.

No. Just the filter. Its a .wav file. Equalizer APO or Roon can load it.

Effortless balance I'd say. If had to sum it up quickly. I like it. Has less 3-4k than a lot of people's EQs do. Check his article I linked, gives you an idea. His graphs aren't compensated like most do keep in mind.

I've tried more than PC to Qutest via USB homie. Actually prefer the TT2, unsure now why I sold it. Might buy it back.

U have to skip the USB and use optical is half of the point. And use lifatec optical cables.

Check the Dave thread and you will see a lot of people using the src dx and attested the sq improvement by bypassing USB.

I’m considering it. I need to make sure I can apply the FIR filter in HQP as I prefer to apply all DSP there rather than Roon. I’m fairly sure this is possible using HQP’s convolution engine. I’ll let you know if I end up doing it.

I’m personally of the belief that the difference between amps and DACs tends to be extremely minor, at least when talking about delta sigma and solid state. It sure if anyone was demoing the LCD-5 at canjam on R2R and tube setups.

Absolutely right.
There have been many blind tests decades ago, that have shown that DACs and amplifiers do not have an "inherent sound".
Provided they work as they should, and are not intentionally sounded (not linear FR, or not current stable to the load).

In blind tests, participants are not able to hear the difference between DACs or amps.
Not even the difference between THD 0.05 and 0.5%.

At this point, I would like to emphasize once again that I wish things were different...
