Audeze LCD-4

@Softable When they went to the market I bought it in Cocobolo finish and I had to sell them to make cash, the search to make the Music sound similar but for less money it took me to buy other LCD-4 :sweat_smile:. I have been able to listen to the 4z and they are the alternative, but I like them more in wood. Of course, being able to listen to an Orpheus system has to be an explosion of joy. :yum:

@erpguru
I used this plastic thing to separate the glue ring of the former pad from the cushion. A guitar pick or even a credit card would have worked the same. Notice that the pad is glued on top of that cushion. It is not hard to separate them. Current Audeze drivers have a metal mesh that protects the diagram from whatever may fall on it (dust, screws, tool tips, etc), so less worries there too. Overall a simple procedure, I guess it took me about 20 minutes both cups.

Although the Orpheus is more transparent, I don’t think they are more delicious. I lust after the 4/z because of how wet and luscious the sound is. For sure e stats are wonderful, and my kse reveals more detail than the Audeze, but lcd4 reaches heights of euphony that exceed even 007, which is one I’d love to own.

Does anyone know if a Bottlehead Mainline would power these?? I heard them at the SoCal Canjam and was extremely impressed with them! That said, I worry my Mainline won't be enough and don't like the idea of making a chain just for these headphones lol.

I would call Audeze, and tell them which amp. Power is one thing, sound is another. You need spare current to get the best out of any high end HP, but how it sounds is not just about power.

Does someone tested the LCD-4 on IBasso DX200/220 with amp8? For my Mysphere@150Ohm it has more then enough power.

Yeah, I don't think that will do it for LCD-4.

AMP7 has somewhat enough power for He6SE, but it has enough power in the sense that if you don't go above 80 dB, the sound is very detailed, sweet and controlled. But at maximum of DX220's volume you stop at about 80 dB peak / 75 dB continous. So unless you listen rather quiet, I don't think LCD-4 is doable from any portable

LCD-4Z, absolutely tho

You cannot compare LCD4 (97 dB/1mW) to HE6SE (83.5 dB/1mW!!!). LCD4 will be a lot a lot louder.

The HE6 is the harder of the two to drive, no doubt, but you should also take the difference in impedance in to the calculation. LCD-4 has almost four times as high impedance as the HE6.

With every doubling in impedance the amplifier can (normally) only deliver half as much power. Example: 200 watt at 4 Ohms, but only 100 watt at 8 Ohms and 50 watt at 16 Ohms.

I have both the lcd-4 and he-6 and indeed, he he-6 is harder to drive.

Interesting. Can you calculate by how much? So listening on your amp at normal level on the HE-6, what is the volume pot at for both with the LCD4 for the same level?

I estimate for the LCD-4 at 10 o’clock, the he-6 will be at 12 ‘clock for the same volume on my oppo ha-1

About 5-6 dB difference.

I think that the lcd-4 is now the most underrated of the TOTL HP's available......

I agree with you on this. I don't think they get the credit they deserve. Many dismiss them as way too warm and unresolving, but that is far from the truth. They give you much the same information about your source, but don't shout it to you like the Utopia. Just recently saw a reviewer that just dismissed them as being too dark to be a TOTL HP. I don't think so. In my head to dead match up between the 1266, 4 and Utopia I preferred the 4 as the value leader. I know you prefer your TC's and in many ways they are better than the 4, but I think at current street prices the 4/4z are a relative steal.
