Audeze LCD-2 Orthos

Would a 5U4GB version of the tube by say Tung-Sol or Hytron differ much sonically from their 5U4G variant? The shape is different, but does it pretty much stay the same tube? The B versions seem to be more widely available.

Really nice tubes!  I use a Hytron 5U4G in my WA6.  Very nice tube.  Just as good as the Tung-Sol IMO.

I haven't been here reading for a while due to work, so I finally plug in and read that Audeze has come out with new pads for the LCD-2s.  Could someone fill me in here as to why the new pads, etc.?  I have searched through the 850 posts to no avail.  Thanks.

Thanks, I've been using a Sophia Princess 274b since it has a bigger soundstage and clearer treble than my Amperex Bugle Boy GZ34.  My Russian 5U4G is more open than the GZ34, but the treble was a little plasticky and artificial sounding.  But the Sophia is too bright with my Sylvania VT231 tubes and adapters (6SN7 type tube).  I like the clarity of the VT-231 over my old RCA 6DE7, but I don't think they pair well with the Sophia.  (maxed WA6)

I used my Matrix M-Stage with my LCD-2s and I quite liked the pairing. It's even below your budget

I'm actually considering the M-Stage for my LCD-2, so I'd be interested in any more detailed comments you might have. I'm torn between that and a decent integrated like a Marantz PM6002 currently on Ebay.

Got my replacements yesterday. I was climbing the walls without them. But I felt better as soon as I tied the headphone cable around my arm, tapped to find a vein, and then injected the 1/4 trs...just joking. But seriously, that was a looooong week without them. Never want to go thru that hell again.

hello there,

I am planning to purchase a pair of lcd2s and would like to learn your thoughts matching it with headroom's ultra micro dac / amp combo. Anyone has real life experience with this combo? Thanks in advance...

I've heard the LCD-2 on the Headroom BUDA / UDAC and it was a fine sounding combo. The Ultra / micro dac should have a similar sounding signature.

I thought the LCD-2 sounded good through pretty much all the amps I've heard. They sounded wonderful through my $200 KICAS and even better through my Apache. They also sounded good through tube/hybrid amps as well (Leben, P/V, Lyr(with proper tubes), WA2) etc.

Received my replacements yesterday, 13 days after sending in the bad pair, and a full three weeks after the originals failed. Boy did I miss them. If there's a next time, I'll be on the phone rather than relying on e-mail. Still, I'd recommend these phones highly.

I think LCD-2s with Beta 22 sound great. No problem with soundstage or treble IMHO. With lesser amps, the treble and soundstage seem to be lacking slightly (take my statement with a grain of salt, as I "converted" from Beyer T1s).

yes, great combo.
the soundstage is good but not larger than the hd-800 or k-1000.
the treble not have problem but sometimes(with some records) is a little artificial
