I would be more concerned about damaging ones hearing, if something went wrong and you got full signal, while wearing the headphones. Yikes!

When you think about it, though, the full 20w signal of the XPA-200 would only provide a little over 4db more than the full 6.6w signal of the Mini-X (which isn't a whole lot more than the Mjolnir).

I may be getting something wrong here, but I don't believe you would want the full signal coming into the headphones while wearing them.....likely not even 1 watt......even though the headphones themselves could handle it. Someone could correct me on this if I'm incorrect.

Oh totally. It'd majorly damage your hearing and hurt like hell. What I was getting at is it isn't a whole lot more dangerous than using a powerful headphone amp.

I think those figures are wrong, zilchomod or whatever his name was posted the maths a few pages back and it came down to something less than 100wpc.

Sorry to say so but that doesn't really make sense.. Will look into it. I don't really think it is safe to push a 100 watt amp to max despite the lcd-2 being said to handle 15 watt, lol. Oth one can argue they won't blow if you accidently put the volume to max. I wonder...

I can't for the love of god find the post and there was a few discussion on it back on page 93 or so. I think the less than 100watt figure zilch calculated was for the rev.1's.
 
65watt into 8ohms = 8.6 or so watts approx which is little more than half of the max the rev.2 can handle. So approx 120watt is the max the LCD2 can be driven safely off.

Here is my brilliant math. Since the LCD-2 is now 60ohms. (used to be 50ohms.) Just divide 8ohms by 60ohms. You get: .13333~
 
Now multiply this number by the number of Watts into 8 ohms. So if it's a 65W into 8ohms amp then multiply by 65. This = 8.66W into 60ohms.

The hole thing is redundant to argue about. Most amps will clip at full output anyway. At least in 8 ohms. The emotiva mini-x can handle an input of 0.6 V at full volume at 8 ohm with reasonable distortion. Imagine what 2V from your DAC would do. One might argue that it won't distort over such an easy load as the 50-60 ohm lcd2 (which it probably will) but think about the powah at 2V versus 0.6V! It's often the same picture with most amps...

They can actually handle a fairly large amount of power, orthos don't blow up like a traditional driver with a voice coil.  I've had my LCD2's on my Classe CA150 home amp which delivers 150 watts into 8 ohms and it handled it like a champ.  The LCDs actually double nicely as a small set of desktop speakers too!
