Audeze closed-back prototypes! Yeah, this is one of the headphones at the top of my wish list.

Well it looks like the Alpha Dog is poised to take the (albeit not really contested) top spot for portable ortho.

I really do hope the finished product will be lighter if they were meant to be somewhat more portable as a closed back.

Slightly crazy though to buy luxury wood cup closed headphones for portable use

A non-glossy wood finish would be better. Something with a rougher and grainy texture might add to the appeal actually.

I highly doubt you will see them for sale this year.
Its a bit too quiet about them.
I would like to hear what Jude has to say between these and the alpha dogs (I think he called the alpha dogs his "reference closed back headphone").

Hope I'm not saying anything out of bounds here, but the closed Audeze will be on display at the upcoming CanJam@RMAF in Denver CO on 10/11-13.

Also I've heard the headphones, along with the Alpha Dog, and I think the Alpha Dog sounds better, for less money too. I'd rather have the Alpha Dog over them, especially since the closed Audeze has the same weight & clamp issue as the LCD-2/LCD-3.

Would've gone for the Alpha Dogs if I wasn't absolutely sickened by how the T50rp looks.

Looking forward to somehow trying both though... Definitely want to see how the AD signature stacks up against Audeze house sound.

Yet you also said you were underwhelmed by the Alpha Dogs too.  Could it just be that you don't like warm-dark headphones?

the alpha dog does not have the same housing as the stock t50rp though... though still have other parts that are the same, headband adjustment rod and such...
