ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

Hi guys, I just got a used Eikon Padauk and while I have to get used to it's signature I can see that it is a great headphone. I do feel however that it is really held back right now by the mediocre cable, so I need your help...

I am driving the out of my Sony ta-zh1es, and I have a really nice wywires platinum cable, terminated to balanced 4-pin xlr. The headphone connection is 3.5mm

So my question is, do you know of any F3.5mm to F4-pin adapters that won't break the bank?

Assuming your platinum cable has 2 X 3.5mm male plugs (headphone side) & 1 X 4-pin XLR (amp side)--I wasn't able to find single-body adapters that have the necessary female mini-LXR on one end & female 3.5mm jack on the other, that you need. But there is a pair of short connector cables available from Norne Audio. You would specify the connectors you need on each end:

I got a pair of these to adapt my existing ZMF/Audeze cables to a HEX v2, which has dual 2.5mm female inputs. It took awhile for these connectors to show up, but they work exactly as advertised. Trevor is a good guy & can help you configure yours as needed.

Thanks man, but I went ahead and bought an Arctic cable from the classifieds. Roughly at the same price as these and it'll be here faster (I am not a patient man, though I try to be).

Appreciate it :)

Posted these about a week ago and are finishing a few sets of Eikon's today in the Camphor burl. What's awesome is how unique each set is. I really wish I could keep them all sometimes!

I can see Zach now... He's in full Gollum mode, surrounded by mounds of ZMF headphones muttering "my preciouses" to himself.

Hello all, I recently got an Atticus with both the stock pads (leather ori pads) as well as the suede Eikon pads. I had heard in one review that the suede Eikon pads significantly change the sound... and boy were they right! They turn the Atticus into a completely different headphone.

I have a question about this: Does anyone have any experience listening to both the Eikon as well as the Atticus with suede Eikon pads? Do the suede Eikon pads essentially turn the Atticus into an Eikon sound-wise?

I ask because I've heard the Eikon is more "neutral", less emphasized in mid-bass, and clearer in the treble. It seems like that's what the suede Eikon pads do to the Atticus.

If it weren't so true...

I recently picked up an Atticus and am really enjoying them, but wondering if it is worth upgrading from the stock flat cable. Any opinions/comparisons with the OFC upgrade cable or spc vs copper, etc. would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Pads for Atticus? I bought a Used Atticus. They Come with Stock pads Ori wildleder pads. Maybe I Must Buy new pads . But I don‘t find in ZMF Store Atticus pads. Wich pads shouldt I buy. Thank for help

I actually prefer the suede Eikon pads on the Atticus over the stock Ori pads. Zach recommends them as an alternative as well. They change the sound pretty significantly, for the better IMO.

Here are some posts where he discusses them:

I'm currently using the OFC cable. It adds more bass to the sound. I think it makes the Atticus more "muscled" in some way. It you want your sound to be more "neutral", with a little bit more air, the stock cable is the way to go. I don't know about the other cables though. I've also opened the Atticus' sound by switching tubes on my Woo WA2, so it's all a matter of keeping things balanced according to your tastes.

Has anyone tried the atticus with a dragonfly red or JDS Labs atom? I really want to get a pair for the office but I worry that what I have available to amp it (at the office anyway) will simply not be good enough.

We've been using the Atom lately at shows - great amp! Definitely enough power and tone. Great value that JDS atom.

The jds labs atom is my main Amp. What do you mean exactly by not good enough? Just wondering, because the atom is a super clean amp and can power the Atticus at like 10 o'clock low gain and have them pretty loud.

I've used more pensive amps and pretty much all of the main $100 ones and the atom is my favorite paired with the grace sdac it's a cheap combo isn't going to bottleneck your set up at all

You have to wonder why anyone would buy a super expensive amp if something like the Atom is considered good enough, clean enough, and no bottleneck for a 300ohm headphone. Just me asking aloud - I don’t have all the answers either.

For the same reason people buy Harley Davidson motorcycles instead of Vespas. Pride of ownership, performance, looks, perception of value in areas like features or specs, etc. But in the end, either will scoot your butt down the road.
