Longest... three... months... ever...

Maybe I'll just hibernate through the winter.

Yeah that's actually a really good observation!  The biocellulose material is stiffer than the TPE, so it moves more as a whole, where-as TPE is more flexible and is more nodal.   The two headphones actually measure fairly similarly in the bass with the Atticus showing a coupel DB more, but part of what makes it sound punchier int he mid bass is that nodal trampoline effect.

So yes, I would classify the bass of the Eikon as more planar like, but still dynamic with its piston like total driver movement that is also contributed to by the rubber surround, where-as the Atticus is more nodal.

I was actually tempted at one point to got with a larger driver but I wanted to keep distortion as low as possible so 50mm seemed like a great spot to be at.

Ahh, thanks. I don't see the point going beyond 50mm either, unless there was a magnet that can remain small yet powerful enough to drive it, otherwise, you're better off going planar magnetic route for a diaphragm that big. Thanks.

hey zach wondering what the voice coil of the eikon is made of and underhung or overhung?

It's KSV material with CCAW (Copper Clad Aluminum Wire) and it's underhung!

My QP1R has a 3.5 mm headphone jack that is not balanced. I do not see that option. I only see the 3.5 mm balanced option.

Ah yeah, I put 1/8" for the single ended option of 3.5, I should just list both.  I'll make the change.

I hope I ordered early enough for a first batch delivery as it would arrive potentially on my birthday.

I need headphone help (lots of other kinds of help, but just headphone help here!):

-- for months I've been planning to get a pair of Omni's, probably in 1st quarter of 2017
-- then the Atticus/Eikon launch seriously distracted/confused those plans. Now I can't decide between a pair of Atticus vs pair of Omni's (Hobb's dilemma, for sure)
-- then I get my daily Massdrop email and there is a drop for E-MU Teak, a headphone I've been jonesing for months, but kind of "on the back burner," behind, not ahead of the ZMF fixation. But because it's a real drop, a real price, vs a stupid $999 list, all of a sudden I'm in headphone turmoil...

Other background is that I bought the Massdrop TH-X00's (mahogany) earlier this year, but was disappointed by them. Despite that hard-hitting sub-bass, I found them to be overly bright and relatively lackluster in design/construction, so sold them. After that, I vowed to stay away from the various Fostex iterations of that basic design--the only one of which really appeals to me anymore is the E-MU Teak.

Can someone here w/experience of both the Omni's & the E-MU Teak talk me down and tell me which is better, and why?

I have a gut feeling that the E-MU Teak's would just be kind of medium-step (but not all the way) towards the very same sound qualities the Omni's can fully deliver. But I never heard any of these 'phones...only going by descriptions.

HELP!

Same here!

So I was under the impression the headphones would arrive with an adapter for either 1/8 or 1/4 but it seems I was mistaken.

Yeah the 1/8 single ended come with a 1/4 adapter.

Just pre-ordered the Padauk Eikon too! Hopefully the Vibro MK II Purple Heart will arrive soon to tide me over until the Eikon arrives!

We're working on them today! Shipping starts monday next week.

HELP!

I have the Teak.  I don't have the Omni, but do have the Vibro.  I've demo'd the Omni, Atticus and Eikon.

If you didn't like the TH-X00 because of the treble, I can say the Teak are better and less bright - but not by much.  They're more similar than not.  This might be a detractor for you.

I have never heard a bad or bright treble note out of a ZMF headphone.  This may be a case where you have to apply giant amounts of willpower and save up for the Atticus or Omni.   I think you'd enjoy that more, to be honest.

HELP!

I can easily understand you, I had sort of the same doubts as I was looking after the EMUs as well and I was one of those that "clicked" to get the option again... However, after reading a lot on the ZMFs I opted for the Atticus/Eikon that are a completely new project form the ground up instead of a modification of existing products. I prefer to pay a full price for an Atticus rather than saving money on a product that is repriced somehow somewhere and listed at full price on the manufacturer's site as well. At the end I do not know what I am paying for if I may say.
Not to mention the possibility of dealing with the manufacturer directly. So I made my choice on the Atticus.
Good luck for your decision.

Omgosh I feel emotionally abused lol. I thought you were saying shipping on Monday for the eikon too. I typed lol at the end of the sentence so I didn't come off as brash but In all reality my brain feels like it was heated up with scorching amounts of heat then dipped in ice water. Wrecked...:xf_eek:
