I don't like that whole 'let's make a limited edition, so they will all sell in a week' thing... I reckon that price is not justifiable at all, I will definitely go with the ESW9 in stead. A good price and from what I've read, splendid headphones.

What is the service like with pricejapan...reliable/fast shipping? Do they just outsource from the other Japanese retailers or are they their own shop with their own stock?

I used pricejapan to get my AT-HA5000 and W5000. They don't have any stock themselves; they just catalog the best deal that they find online, and order the items that you want from these other retailers, then forward the items on to you. When I ordered my stuff, there was a pretty fast turnaround (under two weeks), and they were able to answer my questions quickly.

guys remember the street price will be significantly lower in japan , this is the case will all ATs including the limited headphones. My guess is around 45.000-40.000 Yen. The ESW9 costs only half of its MSRP. (39k vs 20k yen). Im sure sasaki mistyped the new AD1000 as an obvious AD1000 (not 2000) successor. The AD1000 actually has great sales in japan and is one of their cashcows.

Yet relative to the esw9, the esw10 is still expensive. Though I'll definitely be anticipating a review of the esw10 and if the doubling of the price translates into an appropriate increase in SQ.

On a side note, are exporters (pricejapan?) able to get street price on the phones?

As bizkid said, the street price should be lower than the list price. Here's a site that's showing a price of ¥44,900:

Sites like pricejapan should be able to get it at the street price (plus their commissions and shipping charges), since they're essentially buying it at street price and then sending it on to you.
