They're out of their bloody minds $600, I'm almost hoping that they will be a lot less (price/sq-wise) than the ESW9s.

They look quite nice.

Remains to be seen if they are worth $600 though. Sound and build quality wise that is...

The list price for the ATH-ESW10JPN is 670,000 won ($555).

The list price for the ATH-ESW9 is 410,000 won ($340) but I picked them up for 286,000 won ($237), based on todays exchange rates (Korean won is taking a hammering lately).

I don't think people in Korea will be able to get these new phones much cheaper than $550.

So I decided to splurge and pre-ordered a pair a few days ago

Can't wait to hear what they sound like! All told, it was about $450USD which includes shipping to my address. Looks like bluetin's price is pretty good then. If you'd like to save 50 bucks on bluetin's price though, you can reserve a pair through some deputy service, which is what I did.

Yaluen,
Can you (anyone?) please spell out the details of how to buy these phones through a deputy service and thereby save $50.
Is bluetin a reliable retailer for these phones?
As reliable as audiocubes?- at more than a $100 savings.

I've got a pm asking me about it so I'll quote what I wrote. Ordering from bluetin shouldn't be a problem. Savings doesn't equal unreliability. Bluetin just has their price more in line with the actual street price in Japan. AudioCubes' price is the MSRP.

Just head over to kuboten.com. I've had a look around many deputy services and Craig who runs the site has the cheapest commission. Sign up for an account there and fill out a shop order form. Give him this url, this online shop has the best price right now: http://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/va...310104092.html. It should be 39,296 yen. If it changed, pm me and I'll find another one. You can check the FAQ for a rundown of the costs but it's basically, 1) Price of the headphones + 2) $10 plus 5% of the price of the headphones as commission + 3) shipping from shop to Craig then from him to you. You should do this ASAP as pre-ordering prices tend to fluctuate quite a bit and this shop should sell out of their pre-order stock quickly (as it's the cheapest atm). Payment is through PayPal fyi.

Just want to add that I had extended correspondence with Craig about the pre-ordering process and he was very gracious in helping me getting the best deal. Oh, and the shop I linked to ships for free within Japan so you'll save on the first half of shipping.

Hope this helped (...empty your wallet)

Thank you, Yaluen, for your quick answer to my question.
I had seen Kubten's name as an eBay seller of Japanese headphones.
Mostly - but not only - new.
So I didn't feel totally disoriented.
Still, I never imagined contacting them to place an order for an item which they were not advertising.
And I could not have figured out how to locate a shop from which I wanted Kubten to purchase a product I wanted to buy.
The details which you provided allowed me to put in a pending order for the ATH-ESW10s.
I am now at the stage of waiting for email contact from Kubten with regard to completing the order.

Well, I pre-ordered from bluetin. I'm quite a fan of the ESW9s, though it's interesting to note that my pair, which I bought when they were first released, sound a bit different that another pair (Vorlon1's) that were purchased quite a few months later. I'm curious about the new driver for the ESW10s. I figure I'll listen to both the 9s and 10s and sell whichever I like least.
