Astell & Kern SR15: A&norma Impressions & Reviews
Jan 16, 2019 at 10:45 AM Post #916 of 2,727
I would like to add a request for audible.com to be added as an app for the SR15.
Thanks
Audible has been requested a number of times in some of the other AK threads. I submitted a request to our dev team two weeks ago and it is currently being testing to possibly be included in the next firmware update.

@JasonNYC
May I kindly request scrobbler for last.fm to be considered for SR15's music app? It could be offline scrobbler if online is impossible or difficult to implement.
Thanks in advance.
I will pass this request on to our dev team.

From my memory checking out the 1A the SE out was more powerful than the ZX300 and had a bigger stage and a bit more control than ZX300.

However the balanced sounded remarkably like the ZX300 balanced and I was hard pressed to tell the difference.

I personally like the sound of the sr15 better than the ZX300 balanced out, it’s just more focused and natural, where the Sony has that Sony sound going on.

WM 1A isn’t that neutral or reference compared to say aune or Fiio x7 or ibasso 200. It still has a touch of warmth and that reverb sheen that makes things sound yummy. It and the ZX300 sound like they have a tiny peak in treble maybe around 5khz? But they both can sound a bit bright with some phones.

I’m with trance on the sIze of 1A though- too big and heavy, but I’d love to have the Sony battery life on sr15. Oh and zx300 hisses a bit more than 1A. SR15 has a similar low level, much better than AK70.

You couldn’t go wrong with any of them though.

That sounds about right, pretty much why I went for the SR15. Seems to be the best all rounder. But I do like the Sony house sound, I find it works really well for electronic music genres, the SR15 strikes the perfect balance though and sounds brilliant with anything.

I mostly listen to rock and classic rock. Sometimes i switch to genres like lorde, sam smith, movie soundtracks etc... more vocal focused songs or instrument heavy with little to no vocals. ill probably end up ordering the sr15 soonish because after tax the sony wm1a is like 1879$... but the sr15 is only 1050$ lol, im not sure if the sony is worth 880$ more.. doubt it lol

I did finally get an answer last night, but there was really no more information that what I had already posted here. Below is what was provided to me from our HQ team. As you can see, not much clarification on playlists since 1.10 firmware. I again asked for more info. I will stay on top of them.

After Firmware version 1.10, the method of using the playlist function was changed due to the Open APP service.
The reasons for the change is some Music App create playlist file(.m3u) and it confuses the AK product.
So The conclusions is below.

playlist function

before

playlist file(.m3u)
It worked in any folder

After

It must be in playlist folder under the root
And It works.

I've been following your posts on this thread since November. You still seem so unsure as whether to get the SR15.

Trust me - buy it!! You will NOT regret it.

I didn't get a chance to hear it either before purchase, but did my research and read this thread several times before pulling the trigger. Je ne regrette riên:ksc75smile:

Ditto, the sr15 has a dash of ‘special sauce’ in it’s sound. I think AK has moved the mids back just a tiny bit to let the treble and bass have more space.

It’s very intoxicating, I love the sound, and they cleaned up the background since AK70 which makes a very black background and everything is very distinct. Oh and I have or have owned some very good daps, but the sr15 also has some excellent dynamics which makes the sound ‘come alive’.

I appreciate the Edith Piaf reference :p its a great song and shes a great singer.
I feel at this point the main reason why i havent pulled the trigger yet is because i have two options available to me..
1) buy it from Vancouver BC (across the country) online from an audio shop and have it shipped with me. if i do im not sure what the warranty will be like and if anything happens like a defect i'll be poop out of luck.
2) wait till my local retailer gets it in stock in about a month or two... if they even do :S i think they're still on A&K waiting list, but JasonNYC was very helpful with providing me with more information and alternate stores i can buy it from.

I'm in Norway, bought my SR15 from the UK. Bought my TOL IEMs - AKG N5005 - from the US. Checked thoroughly that both dealers would honour any warranties and could supply extra parts when/if necessary. Don't believe any good dealer would say otherwise. Just ask everything before buying.

As long as it was purchased from an authorized dealer in North America, it will be covered by warranty through the Astell&Kern US offices.

As long as it is purchased at an authorized EU dealer, warranty will be valid in any EU country.
