Astell & Kern SR15: A&norma Impressions & Reviews

I’m not gonna lie: I have SE846’s and an AK70ii, and it’s nothinh but pure pleasure listening, even though the SR15 is VERY intriguing. I just think the SE846 are so solid and have been such a rewarding purchase.
I agree.

Hmm maybe I’d be better off with an ak70mk2 then....

How picky is the SR15 in terms of headphone matching? I own the Closed Aeon Flow and the iems Grado GR8e, and I do not want to have to get new cans.

I've been listening to my new SR15 for about 5 days now using Campfire Andromedas, which are notoriously picky about DAP output impedance, from what I've read. The SR15 OI is 1.6ohm balanced, and 1.1ohm unbalanced. Others will chime in, I'm sure, but the SR15's OI seems to work well with the Andros. When I first started listening, I did notice some "tube rush" like noise, but it was relatively low, and did not interfere enough during quiet passages to be a distraction. After 15 or so hours, the noise seems to be decreasing. Not sure what that can be attributed to. It can't be me simply getting used to the noise, because I'm actually listening for it now.

I have yet to do a side by side comparison with my AK300 and DP-X1, but I definitely enjoy this DAP. The UI is nice and smooth, with no hang ups or lag. Sound is ballsy when it needs to be, and delicate when it is called for. The synergy with the Andros is very very good.

Benn using the AK300 for a while and went into Headfoneshop to get a pair of closed backs to use with it. Ended up walking out with the Meze 99 Classics and the SR-15. Wonderful combination for around the house.
I love the AK300 but the form factor and UI speed of the SR15 is amazing. From my short audition, the SR-15 and AK100 are close enough (to my old ears) for me to really not be able to tell a difference. Lovely sounding.
Will also be using the CampfireAudio Lyra II and Shure SE535 with it.

I just received my brand new SR15, pretty, it is a very cool device. Already shows more details of the music compared to the LG V30 out of the box after 1h listening. Drives the Beyerdynamic DT1770Pro easily, level 100 is more than enough.
Just getting familiar with the UI.

In Artist view is there any way to go back to the artist's albums list from the home screen? It runs on 1.02 now.

Edit: Found the option by pressing the album art. :) Also updated to 1.08

dropped by a local shop for a 30mins SR15 audition, with 10 BA IEM 2.5mm

1. UI is great and silky smooth - super user friendly and you will not get lost in the menu

2. around 30mins of usage - the DAP temperature had gone up and it was quite warm and my palm was like :shower:

3. battery life - within 30mins 98% ---> 92% Wifi+browsing the menu+music playing

4. it acted like a magic mirror - SQ is totally depending on what you feed it, so please do squeeze some $ from your wallet for better SQ. imagine a Ferrari without tyres...

5. music streaming - if you are planning to use it with those streaming app most of the time (etc Spotify) then please just get yourself an iPhone. the SQ is ---> :disappointed_relieved: x 3
