From what I have found out in HK as we have many shops, it seems that the sp2000 should be out (hopefully) in the middle of August. My intention is to do a video of the sp2000 on the 9th of August, as we have an Audio show in Hong Kong. I will try to compare the 2 of the sp2000. In regards to the sp1000, yes the SS version is brighter for sure (instruments come out more), while the CU (which I have is more warm and smooth. The onyx version maintains a little of the both with the brightness and the warmth. Obviously it will depend on what sound signature is for you. Maybe a consideration of the sp1000 with amp as the sp1000 is getting less, especially in the secondhand market. Even more when the sp2000 is released.

The swiss shop I usually order stuff from has updated estimated availability to 2nd half of September. But it will likely show up earlier on other markets.
Early to say, but from the very first reports those who prefer a more detailed presentation may still be better served by the SP1000(+AMP?) solution.

From a technical point of view. The SP2000 is new, and all engineering designs should satisfy the Minimal goal, is to beat or to outperform the last generation. If any engineers who can’t meet that, they would be fired, and if any company that can’t do it....they would head to bankruptcy.

From a business point of view. The SP1000 is a portable player, and usually are used with in ears buds which don’t require much of power. But there are people who uses headphones only, and want to keep portability. So an Amp will do just that. The icing on the cake is that, what would you do with a pile of unsold inventory SP1000 when SP2000 is released ? Sit on it ? Or breathing a new life in it by releasing an amp ?

From a customer point of views. SP2000 and SP1000 are now catering toward different practicalities and needs. So, what do one needs and desires, if he/she must be buying A&K now ? The one thing I am sure of is that I would listen to both with the gears (headphones/ ear buds) and decide for myself

Not yet. More information should be announced at the Hong Kong audio show on 8th of August as to shipping dates for the SP2000.

To all you HK headfiers, next week is the HK Audio Festival, please go and listen to both the SP2000 SS and CU version and given us your impressions here. I missed listening to the Cu model at SoCal in June and now can only hear it vicariously through you guys. At least two to three have told me that they preferred the cu model but the SS model that I listened to just wowed me. Please tell me the difference between the two. Are they similar to the difference between SP1000 SS and CU? Mucho thanks.

Indeed, this whole hobby is a hallucination. If anyone tells you that there are differences between the daps from Fiio, AK, Sony, Cayin, Lotto Paw, shanling, Ibasso or Hiby, don’t believe them, it is a delusion.

NativeDSD.com put together a 5 song sampler for us to demo DSD512 with the SP2000 at High End Munich. You can download it from their site. When I get to a computer this weekend I will share the link. It was natively recorded in DSD512, not unconverted.
