SP3000 passed certification on Friday, but with Roon ARC being announced yesterday, Roon was holding off on announcing SP3000 certification until later this week. We were telling people at CanJam this past weekend that it was approved and so was the Roon team at their booth and that it would be announced later this week. I held off posting in the thread until Roon posted on the website and switched on in Roon Core, which they just did about 45 minutes ago.Cool. I had not seen an announcement other than pending certification in the first post:
"The SP3000 will add Roon Ready support pending completion of testing and final certification by Roon Labs."
Maybe you can understand that this didn't go well for us SE100 and SR15 owners:
October 4, 2018:
AFAIK, the SP1000M didn't get it until August, 2001... As for the SE100 and SR15... well... never.
Sorry to beat a dead horse, but...
Regarding the SE100 and SR15 - yes, you and I have discussed this many, many, many, many times in pretty much every AK thread. Initially when we announced we were working on Roon certification for players back at RMAF in 2018, we were led to believe it would be a quick process. Little did we know it would take over 2 years to overcome all the Android limitations to fully integrate Roon RAAT into AK players. It is also the reason why AK is the only DAP and only Android-based device to have bit-perfect Roon playback and be Roon Ready certified. Once certification happened in late 2020, it was first rolled out to SP1000, since the initial dev was done for over 2 years on that DAP, then slowly out to other current devices that were still available for purchase in retail. Since Roon RAAT code is fully integrated into the player software and each device has different hardware, it is not as simple as copying the firmware to a new device, the player software has to be rebuilt with Roon RAAT individually for each player, while still also developing and providing bug fixes and general software updates for players.
Roon Ready is being added to all players going forward as it is being integrated into the initial firmware from the start of software development for new models.
Personally, I would love to see Roon support to every wi-fi based player, including the ones that are multiple years old. Will it happen, most likely not at this point unless all software development is thrown behind rebuilding the software for the older players and dev is put aside doing updates for current gen players for the foreseeable future.
