The HM801, Sony NMZX2, AK240. I also recently listened quite extensively to the Paw Gold, the Onkyo and Pionner new DAPs.  Compared with my AK240, I was quite underwhelmed with the AK380. But the AK380Cu is really worth the upgrade. It is just so much better than the stock AK380. Sublime. Simply sublime.

wow thats a lot of daps, what music style do u listen, do u like bass

You should try the Tera Player.Natural reproduction sound system.
Is the best of the best for me!

I wouldn't deny it. But not much greater than the AK240. Of course 240 is also a great dap.

HI LouisArmstrong.

I did a 20-minute audition of the Ak380Cu last week and compared it directly with my AK240 side-by-side on the same song (unfortunately my SD card cannot be read by the 380).  I have repeatedly trying to find the "wow factor" as I was on the edge to take the plunge for the 380Cu (it looks gorgeous).  However, I can't really able to justify to pay for so much money only to gain a relatively marginally difference (or some say gain).  380Cu might be a bit richer in the mid and slightly more 3-D dimension, it does not excel in a way to make the AK240 obsolete...I just took a walk after the audition with a sense of disappointment.   I was using the Tralucent Audio Ref.1 (original version) with Tralucent Audio silver cable via single-ended connection for this audition session.

Cheers

Mmm....different opinion and experience.......I've done hundreds of tracks using the AK 240 and AK 380 cu. The difference is crystal clear to me. But I am keeping both, with the 240 permanently paired with my CDM, as an equalizer.

@flymetothemoon-Be happy, you saved about $4k brother!! I feel my ears would find similar results. Still want that damn thing.

@LouisArmstrong how do you compare it to the LPG? Currently have the LPG on loan, and I don't want to give it back. Lol

I almost take a plunge on this Linn Climax pair and only cost a bit more than a brand new 380Cu and it will sound miles better than the 380 LOL.

In my case it was the battle between...

1. do I want it
2. do I need it

The latter won.

They ship overseas.

Holy Moly!  They are already out of stock on the black and brown models.  Only red shows in stock.
