Anyone here ever get screwed on a deal?

Never been ripped off - have had some of the best transactions - it was Head-fi that told me about Audiocubes and I had my first package from Japan. But you asked about Head-fiers. I have had great connections with guys from Europe, Africa and Canada. But that is not to say some discussions have not been tense. I tend (for whatever) reason allow people to return a product if they do not like it. I had one situation where I was about to re-accept an amp twice (nothing wrong with the amp) and so I was little nervous because I knew someone would ask, "Isn't this the same amp you sold to xyz?" and then no one would buy from me. So I encouraged the second seller to keep the amp. It worked out for them.

Also to the earlier posters -- I wonder if I am receiving the best product now that I read their posts-- I mean I am buying blind (never heard the phone, amp, source before)-- what if it a little damaged and it sounds not at its best-- I would never know -- I am sure the seller never even knew-- he/she bought it from someone else. Kind of funny (not in a ha-ha way but in a nervous laugh kind of way). Who knows?

But I have been blessed. I paid and they sent it. They paid and I sent it.

To be honest the only thing that I find distressing about the whole ordeal (other than being out $250) is the fact that people still wish him happy birthday around here...

OMG, that is terrible!

I would wish him a happy death day.

I've run into overstated condition, which is annoying, but this has been rare and never over a major issue. I tend to stay away from for sales in which the seller says "I don't notice any flaws." While no doubt true in most cases, it smacks of falling within the letter but not the spirit.

Agreed. I'd be filling his PM box daily as well, and quoting his every post, followed by "THIS GUY RIPPED ME OFF FOR $250 DONT TRUST HIM", appropriate timing or not.

I think that'd you would find that acting like that would leave you a rather bitter individual, as it did me for quite some time. Also, behaving like that would only serve to derail otherwise unrelated conversations and that's just counterproductive in general. At some point you just have to move on and concentrate on what is good about these forums, not what is bad. If the individual had any intention of refunding my money (as he originally said he would) I'm sure he would have. However, the last time that I brought it up he flaunted the fact that he would never do so. Based on that I made the decision to move one.

I almost didn't post anything in this thread as I don't have much of a desire to relive the whole thing another time but I think it's an important thing for others to hear about, even the most honorable appearing members are not above question. I try not to act paranoid in my dealings since the bad experience was perhaps one of a hundred or so transactions I've had here. Nonetheless I do take a bit of a different look at things now and tend to take as many steps as possible to protect both myself and the other individual so there can be no chance of a repeat experience.

True enough, but I WOULD be a bitter individual

and I would hate to let other people sit there thinking he's a class act when I know what kind of a guy he really is, it would be hard to restrain myself, and derailing his conversation would be the least of my worries. You are right though, to be the bigger person I would have to move on, but there is such a thing as being too passive in such a situation, especially on a board like this where civility is the code. Luckily I've never had such an experience, every deal I've had here thusfar has gone off without a hitch. Thanks to all of you for establishing such an honour system

FWIW, not in one single post of his that I can remember has he not come off as anything other than scum. I don't know why people like this guy, or why he's not banned, but some of us at least have decent memories.

It's one thing when it's a new member with low post count, but when it's someone who is seemingly protected, you must end up feeling more than a little violated.

The only problems I've ever had here are sellers getting shady about price and then suddenly backing out, or just not replying - things that tell you not to buy from this person even if they wanted to sell to you. Otherwise every transaction has been smooth.

i've had people behind me in the "line" get the item i had stated i was willing to buy... other than that it's been fairly smooth every single time i've bought something

Thankfully No I’ve never been screwed on Head-Fi. I’ve put out some major coin on this site and thanks to careful research and a decision to deal with more established members I’ve been very successful in my dealings on Head-Fi.

There are members here who have been so generous and helpful that it is inspiring. When it comes to customer service people like Ray Samuel’s are role models.

So in essence I try to live up to the standard Head-Fi has established. This place rules!!

Yes, the members of the trade that I've had the pleasure of dealing with because of head-fi have just been awesome. Jan, Ray, Justin, Tyll, RnB180, Larry at Headphile, Portaphile, ALO, the list just goes on and every transaction makes you wish you could buy more stuff from them.
