I mean from another Head-fier. The people here are so honest and honourable, just wondering if anyone's ever got stiffed on a deal, or anything to that effect.

Have to agree. So far in HeadFi I've dealt with people from across the world and found all to have the key ethical ingredient - trust: I can trust them and they can trust me. I've heard it claimed you can pay more on HeadFi than other sources but, in parallel, I've always got what I paid for (Besides, I tend to pay more for shipping in any case, being 'down under').

Whether or not I've payed for sex isn't any of your damn business.

(No, I've only had good head-fi dealings so far...)

Sure, the vast majority of transactions are concluded successfully. I think I've done 70+ and have had no problems so far.

However, if you search for "scam" in the Members Lounge, you should turn up a few threads. Off the top of my head, I recall Gloomfire and RedLeader starting threads because they were scammed.

Head-Fi is an extraordinary community, but as with all communities, there're bound to be a few bad apples.

I didn't get scammed, but I got ripped off. The guy listed them as brand new. When I recieved them there was a scuff on them and some food dried on the pad! Then I asked him a few questions about the history of the phones and I found out that he wasn't even the first owner! The only positive thing is that sonically, they're fine.
Anyway, this was recent, I'm still kinda mad over it.

I'll be sure to thoroughly wash the pads and wipe the rest of the headphones.

And to mirror the majority, the dealings I've had have been good so far. I admit the purchase of some of the more expensive "toys" got me nervous but they all turned all right in the end. So glad there is more than just Ebay out there.

Cheers!

Edit: BTW, have you left feedback for this seller? We'd at least like to be made aware of potential sales like this too.

Yes, I've left feedback for him...his name was globe91skate.
I even arranged for someone to pick them up so he didn't have to pay shipping charges since he lived in MN.

I'm always careful with who I deal with online. For high value items, I only pay by credit card. Either directly or through paypal. No exceptions, no matter how good the deal is.

For low value transactions (<$300), I'd still rather pay by CC, but I'm willing to do cheques and DD's. The way I see it, if I get screwed, it's more a reflection on the other guy than of me. I can afford the $300 and it's pretty sad if you think your reputation is worth less than that.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of scammers who try on ebay.

You can pretty much sniff them out a mile away.

I remember a listing for a Halcro DM10 preamp for $250. Brand new user, zero feedback, would only accept cashiers cheques and the description was a simple cut and paste off the Halcro site.

I reported the listing as it was suspicious of being a scam or it was stolen property. It was withdrawn the next day.

I had a transaction go badly, but it was due both of us. In the end, we resolved the issue amicably and in fact, a lucky event helped it resolve better than expected. Other than that, seamless.

Paid for a DIY item here onetime. Seller kept saying he would send it, but never did. To be honest I think I asked once or twice, but never followed up after that. It was only a few dollars, but annoying all the same. I probably should have kept after it, but I got busy with something else and never went back to it.

Prob a genuine oversight cos the seller had good feedback here.
