Any old fart head-fi'ers still around?

Yeah, I remember Ety's were the name of the game and none of these custom iem manufacturer's were around back when I joined

I remember that used Ety's were so high in demand that it usually sell in 30 minutes.  Same with Headroom Cosmic ("Max w/ wing").

Throughout my headphone hobby I've apparently been a strong and stalwart A-T/Senn enthusiast, having had a pretty solid serial collection over time( profile: http://www.head-fi.org/u/210/pigmode).

One headphone I really, really miss was my brother's classic RS1, of which I was custodian for more than half a year. Was very sad to see that one go. Sure wish there was an easily available replacement.

Seriously, try the newer RS1e. I'm using one now and it's absolutely wonderful. I think as long as you get one where the drivers are recessed, it sounds pretty good. Kind of similar to the RS1 classic with flats.

I've had a few classic RS1's pass through my hands and every time something justified selling them to fund something else.  It's been years since I've last listened to any Grado cans but my memories of the RS1 always left some regret about selling.  I had no interest in the newer RS1i but maybe RS1e might be worth trying.  How different or how close are they to the classic RS1 sound?

They are still RS1, but there is a better soundstage and the treble isn't as accentuated. More well rounded to my ears. I can't speak for the earlier production model though... Mine has recessed drivers.

Thanks, I'm doing pretty well, and you? What's new around here?

I'm doing good as well. As far as what's new, I'd say there's a ton more gear to talk about but a lot less of the close knit community feel there once was.

Would be quite the achievement, to keep the world's largest online headphone community feel as homely as this place used to be in the first few years. You could literally keep tabs on every thread everybody posted in on a given day in a few pages

Yeah that's what I figured. This place got huge, as did the headphone selection in recent years. Is it just me or had the standards of affordable gear gone up loads? With respect to headphones in particular, I wonder if manufacturing advances are the cause, or simply a question of more consumer demand.

Some of the "megathreads" mostly running in the Members' Lounge are now big enough to host a baker's dozen of thread regulars in a cozy community, somewhat like the whole of head-fi did at the start.

"The Lab" is one such thread hosting headphone gear discussion, sort of like a head-fi in a head-fi. Could be a nice place to start
