I guess I'm both an old fart and an old timer.  Things HAVE changed a lot...like most things, some for the better, some not.  I like to think that most have been for the better.
 
What I remember about when I finally joined (and I'd been lurking for some time prior to that) was that everyone was recommending the META42, and people were always telling you to use the search engine.
