Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knew of any AD700 mods floating around out there? They are pretty cheap, so I wanted to know if there are any mods I can do to improve the sound quality or something like that. This project is just for fun, so it doesn't have to be cost effective necessarily. Thanks guys.

Here's my just-for-fun mod.

It's not the AD700, but AD500. It's the driver implant mod. :p

I have a spare pair of W5000's drivers and I have nothing to do with it since I sold my beloved W5000. So I just put it into the AD500, seal the cup to be close with DynaMat and that's it.

A few companies used to sell the drivers. A few years ago, L3000 drivers were being sold for $69. I wish I was informed back then.

I wish I could answer the second question...

As Ishcabible said, when I had W5000, I asked audio-technica to get a spare pair of drivers. It's about $100 including shipping fee for a pair.

It sounds almost like 80% W5000 with narrower sound stage, thinner sounding and a bit more bass. and it of course blow out stock AD500 out of a water.

For $100 more, I think it's a worth mod to do.

Wait, they still sell them?

I'd totally do this!

WittyzTH: are the drivers in the AD500 angled?
I assume they are not in the W5000

I am wondering if this mod would be better done in the AD500 or AD700.

You can contact audio-technica directly. I believe they might sell it.

Yes, the frame of AD500 is in the angle position as W5000 does.

It can be done in any phones if they have the 53mm drivers. AD500 is the lowest model having it. (AD400 uses 40mm drivers.)

It is true sir.

I own two custom audio-technica now. They are one model with different drivers (W100 with L3000's drivers and AD500 with W5000's drivers.)

It might be much easier if you have the phone you want to have the driver. As I mentioned, I had W5000 at that time and asked them to purchase a spare pair of the drivers.
