HTC One XL is a phone also, it's the Aus/Asian LTE version of the One X.
 
It still didn't work with my G930 without USB Audio Recorder Pro using a Sense-based 4.1.2 ROM with HTC kernel, by the way . I'm hoping it's the G930 has a less than perfect implementation of the USB audio standard (like the E17).
 
I've ordered the FiiO E07K anyway, as worst case it's at least guaranteed to work with my Nexus 7 and I can still use it as an amp with my phone and a USB sound card / amp with my work PC. Once it arrives I will try it with my One XL anyway and update again here. Still hopeful that a 4.2.2 One X(L) kernel with USB audio support appears at some point, as I think that's all that will be needed to get it fully working.

After some web surveys, I think PCM-2704 implementations work well with native Android 4.
Most newer and higher USB chipsets seem to be incompatible.

In a previous thread you mentioned "the Galaxy S3 with USB Audio Recorder PRO interworks with the FiiO E17 USB DAC/amp" , 
does this mean all the Android 4.X devices using USB Audio Recorder PRO can interwork with the FiiO E17, or just Galaxy S3?

I have a droid DNA and with an fiio e17 otg the battery dies way too rapidly. Usb charge is even off. Is this normal?

as the CORDA STAGEDAC uses the CM6631 USB-communication chip for audio-data transmission I asked the manufacturer C-Media whether it is possible to make this chip work with Android systems.
 
Their answer:
 

 " The CM6631 can communicate with smart phone if it's android system(including ALSA driver and supports host mode). "

 
Does anyone of you guys have experience with this?

I think the current USB enumeration software should be improved.

It is not enough tolerant than the one implemented in the USB Audio Recorder PRO app.

The USB Audio Recorder PRO app uses a functional Android USB host driver.
 
The USB host feature is not enabled on LG / Google Nexus 4; a Nexus 4 using USB Audio Recorder PRO can’t work with USB DAC.
 
The incomplete USB host function of the Samsung Galaxy S2 can’t transfer isochronous USB data to USB DAC; the Galaxy S2 using USB Audio Recorder PRO can’t work with USB DAC.

The ALSA USB audio driver is included in the Android Linux kernel of the Samsung Galaxy S3 / Note2, and very likely of the new flagship phones from Sony and HTC.

As far as I know, when a USB DAC can’t work with Android devices, it is mostly due to the failure of the USB enumeration because
. some USB descriptor of a USB DAC is not quite compliant with the USB specification

USB DAC manufacturers should include USB specification-compliant USB descriptors in their USB DACs.
Using the same Tenor TE7022 USB chip, the ODAC has good USB descriptors and the FiiO E17 has buggy USB descriptors.

Software developers of Android device manufacturers should improve their USB enumeration software: be more tolerant of some buggy USB descriptor, be flexible about some USB descriptor parameter value.
And, a software modification is much easier than a USB DAC firmware modification.
 
USB DAC manufacturers or owners could help Android developers by publishing on this thread the USB descriptors of their non Android-compatible USB DACs.

The Schitt bifrost is supposed to use the CM6631 USB receiver, I don't know if its been tested with a Android device like the s3. edit also the ASUS Xonar which I think has been reported working.

having read all the posts related to the nomadic amplifiers from 80 to 400 € .... there was something ... read the reviews, the brand sites, research prices and especially the understanding of it all
 
Well, after thinking, I'm in favor of almost any one as are in the process of becoming our smartphones.
So not buying players, I think I'll keep my Motorola Razr as HD player.

 
From the many choices available to me, buy a dac + amp or Dac / amp (combo) or the last to take a Dac / amp Audio recorder pro, but I have in my head this solution eliminated because ARP is too simplistic and I want to get my foot in the ease with material that I want it to be as mobile as possible: headphone ... with a reasonable budget.
 
Otherwise the easy way to be sure of the result is to close the debate and buy ibasso DX100 ...

And I think for practical reasons to have a Dac / amp is better, but it does not have the best for the price.
But I want to still be able to put everything in my pocket if I move ... I want to do a little compromise, but as little as possible.
 
In the choice I still Dac / amp, compatibility issues could arise as is the case for which the fiio E17 from the start I had a bias that want to buy, it is beautiful, it has musical qualities.
If I want, I fall into my category 3, I also use ARP with, I am not opposed to this software because it provides a more than able to read encrypted 24bits/192 plops, but for now its usefulness may be questioned.
Everyone does not listen yet this format and this is my case, I have, but not much, probably with time we will come with the same time but I think ARP will also increase.
 
Yet this is what Dac / amp that I liked the most, Fiio E17, maybe my choice will be him ... we'll see ...

My other choices are Ibasso D-Zero Fiio competitor for a little cheaper, it has the advantage of operating in standard usb, no need ARP, a good place for me.
 
It is also Hifimediy Sabre and Stoner acoustics UD100 almost the same price, and if I understand do not need to go through an amp, they both use the sound player that we have on our mobile.
 
I was ready to buy a new drive as CK4 (150 €) or Nova 3 (190 €) is the budget that I can put my purchase Dac / amp.

 
If I summarize either stay on my Fiio E17, also outside that I can use with my Razr, what will be the autonomy of all?

Or just purchase a good quality dac as Sabre or Hifimediy Stoner UD100 acoustics, which have good news, I can not choose between the two ....
 
I fart or my budget and I bought the Apex Glacier as to exceed all do well for those who are not so cheap any more of that lot or Ibasso Fiio, I was thinking:

or GB-Dap Venturecraft X

Firstly Im not sure the Razr can handle a DAC, the s3 can because samsung put in some extra work to make it USB/DAC compliant, it is not a standard feature of googles android at the present, also I have a E17 and it is a problematic USB/DAC even with a samsung s3 (It doesn't work unless you use USB recorder pro).

Piratair, I believe fuzzy1969 is correct, none of the RAZR series can utilize an external USB DAC. Also, although I have not heard that specific model, I've listened to several Motorola devices (Bionic, X, and a few others) and have generally been pretty unimpressed by the audio quality on them. Your model may be different, but in general, I get the feeling that Moto doesn't put a high priority on sound quality. 
 
With that said, I'd say your options are to look at getting a different phone and resume your previous line of inquiry, or keep your phone and get a dedicated player. 
 
If it helps, Fiio is apparently working on a dedicated player (the X3) at a very attractive pricepoint (link). Don't know if you want to wait, but it looks like the X3 might be a way to navigate around your issue and still get access to higher-quality audio while on the go.
