"Yes there's support for USB DAC already, and that's a feature Steve [Steve "Cyanogen" Kondik] himself use a lot apparently.

I suppose not every single USB DAC out here will be supported tho, as not all of them behave the same despite following the same spec (this includes power requirements).
I'll keep in mind the idea of maintaining a compatibility list." [Supercurio]

The oneplus one is no good because it doesn't have expandable SD storage. I put off buying anything for a while because of that phone until I learned about it's specifications. For a phone that's aimed at people who like tech specs and tweaking around with their phones, it's a really strange choice that it doesn't have SD storage.

People argue "64 gigabytes is more than enough" but that is completely nonsense. I already have 60 gb on my phone filled with flacs and mp3s and little else. I only have something like 350 albums in total and add more every day.

Sure, it's a shame that OnePlus chose not to include a microSD card slot on the OPO.
But life requires compromise.

A compromise: music files stored on a 2TB portable USB hard drive
Galaxy Note 3 using UAPP >> battery-powered USB hub connected to a 2TB USB hard drive >> ODAC >> Neco Soundlab V3 amp >> Alpha Dog headphones

From left to right: Alpha Dog headphones, Neco V3 amp, ODAC, WD My Passport hard drive, Veho Pepple battery pack, Galaxy Note 3
At the bottom: Belkin 4-port USB hub

Posting my setup too, just an update to what I already had and what I have now.
Galaxy S3>O2/ODAC>LCD-2

Now I'm using an iBasso D-Zero with the S3 and the SE215's and the Havi B3 Pro. Both are really good. Here's a long ass post of my portable setup now:

I think Samsung has it out for me.

Updated my Note II to the latest official 4.3 ROM (N7100ZEMK3) to check out whether my Fiio X3 will work as a DAC....no dice.  No sound from the X3 nor the phone.  Good news is that it no longer speeds through the songs as it did under the 4.1.2 ROM.  Pulling the X3 off the USB cable even causes the player to pause!  So obviously it is getting closer to working.  Mucked around with the Audio output mode and USB Debugging and couldn't get it to output sound using the stock apps.

The USB Host Controller App tells me the following "USB Host Controller Version number: 0.44", "S3c USB Host driver NOT found", "Root hub present, USB Host mode is active!" "Connected USB devices 1-2 0020:1519 Conmneon HSIC Device 1-1 00237:050d USB 2.0 Hub (MTT) 1-1.6 0001:2972 SmartAction FiiO USB Audio Class 2.0 DAC".

Firing up USB Audio Recorder Pro Trial app asks "Allow the app USB Audio Recorder Pro Trial to access the USB device?" allows it to send sweet flac to the X3...which even changes the display to show the correct bit rate and (i.e. Smashing Pumpkins HDTracks shows up at 96KHz and Norah Jones cd rip shows as 44.1KHz).  Oddly enough both show as 24 bits though....in UARP and on the X3.

Also oddly, after stopping UARP and immediately firing up the stock music player sound comes out of the phone speaker.

So I think we can say that, with the latest update, the Samsung Galaxy Note II, using UARP, outputs digital audio to the X3.

I asked in the X5, but got no dice there. Was hoping someone might have had a chance to plug in the Fiio X5 and gotten any luck. Having USB OTG support would really be a nice feature.

According to the USB Audio Player PRO (UAPP) site,
http://www.head-fi.org/t/595071/android-phones-and-usb-dacs/4785#post_10568439
the FiiO X5 can be driven by the USB audio soft driver of UAPP.

UAPP, the best SQ music player to my ears, can play and output 32bit music files.
http://www.head-fi.org/t/638387/best-android-music-player-app/240#post_10120655

Apparently, UAPP could play DSD over PCM (DoP)-encoded files (i.e. DoP-encoded FLAC files) and the DoP could be decoded by the FiiO X5.

Any of you guys know why I hear a few pops and stuttering with my iBasso D-Zero and Galaxy S3 when playing FLAC?

We found that the S3 cannot handle DAC's with feedback information, like the HRT microstreamer and Dragonfly, at least not with the screen off. The sample rates that are affected most are 44.1 and 88.2 kHz. Whether your are playing flac/wav/mp3 does not matter.

Could be latency due to not having enough CPU power to process the data. Try killing running programs that you don't need and see if that helps.

Thanks for the reply but how do you discern which dacs don't have feedback information?

I can see it in a log file. I just checked the iBasso D55 and that also has feedback information, so probably other iBasso's use it as well. You can enable USB tweak 1 to see if you hear a difference, but it will not solve the issue.

Oh man but what is USB Tweak 1? Will the Fiio E18 give me the same issue as well?
